In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I was born in rural Asela, Ethiopia, and moved to the heart of Texas after his family was selected for the U.S. Diversity Visa Program in 2005 at the age of Three.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
The cost of living is too high, housing is becoming increasingly unaffordable, and health care costs are soaring. Large for-profit corporations have consolidated a monopolized these markets. If we are to bring prices down we must end their strangle hold. We must pass legislation banning the mass corporate buyout of Texas homes and in Texas's status at the state with the most uninsured Americans.Republic schools are one of our most crucial things to the people of Texas. In spite of that we rank poorly in our educational outcomes and instead of addressing our systems shortcomings current politicians have decided to redirect funding to private institutions with no obligation to the public. The path forward is clear we need to reduce the senseless state mandates imposed on our public schools and return control to local communities and teachers to decide their curriculum based on the needs of the students. Need to increase funding training and access to special education. And, of course, we need to repeal school vouchers and guarantee that every cent of public dollars goes to public schools. We must build more infrastructure the state of Texas is rapidly growing and will soon hit 40 million people. At such a rapid rate of growth we must start planning today for the people of tomorrow. This means we must accelerate the construction of new infrastructure to meet up growing demands. This means a build out of more energy the construction of denser forms of transportation like rail and buses and addressing potential bottlenecks like are our water usage before issues compound.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
The policy areas I am most interested in are healthcare, tax reform, electoral and campaign finance reform, and regulation concerning the tech sector (ie: right to repair, internet privacy and safety).
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Honesty and integrity are essential in a system where many politicians seem to be working for a corporate or moneyed interests instead of the people.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
To lower costs for people across the state. Everything in this nation has grown far too expensive and the average American is finding themselves in more and more debts just to make ends meet this is not sustainable.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
Some of my first jobs were as a cashier back in high school I worked that over the summer for a couple months. After that I spent approximately a year working in an Amazon warehouse during a post COVID gap year from college.
What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?
And ideal relationship between the state legislature and the governor would be one of cooperation and a shared desire to see changes enacted instead of stalled.
What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?
The greatest challenge is probably going to be climate change. Texas is already an incredibly hot state with limited water resources and it is only going to become more difficult to contend with as the environment warms.
Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?
Compromise is necessary but not desirable. It is part of the process but ideally in all cases you're going to want to fight for the strongest version of whatever policy push for.
