In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a proud son of Hmong refugees who journeyed to America in search of freedom from communism and persecution. Growing up as the child of a ginseng grower and a union worker instilled in me strong values of hard work, community, and resilience. My commitment to public service has led me to serve as a five-term Marathon County Supervisor, a five-term member of the D.C. Everest School Board, and a two-term Village of Weston Trustee.

With over a decade of nonprofit experience, I have dedicated my career to serving elders, survivors of abuse, and business owners, helping individuals chase the American dream. At just 21, I became the executive director of a struggling local nonprofit that was on the brink of closure. When I joined in 2016, the organization had only $5,000 in its account and over $50,000 in debt. Through strategic leadership and collaboration, I transformed that organization over nine years, ultimately leaving it with a $1.9 million budget and zero debt. My ability to win 13 elections with progressive ideas in a conservative area speaks to my focus on practical solutions and a results-driven approach. All across my roles, I've manage public dollars and made tough financial decisions, and I never took this responsibility lightly. I strive to be a leader who gets things done, and I am committed to improving the lives of those in my community.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Accountability & Transparency, I prioritize accountability and transparency as a crucial issue for building trust between government and taxpayers. I will serve as a true watchdog, independent from the Governor and Legislature to ensure that my focus remains solely on the people. This independence enables me to demand transparency in the management of public dollars, allowing taxpayers to see how their money is being spent.

Additionally, I will hold elected officials and government agencies to the same standards they expect from schools and nonprofits. Accountability must be reciprocal; just as we demand it from those handling public funds, we must ensure our government operates with the same level of integrity and transparency.I am committed to protecting and growing WI's investment funds (School Trust Fund, the Trust Fund Loan Program, and more) while ensuring they benefit both rural and urban communities. Investing in our infrastructure is essential for economic growth and improving the quality of life for all Wisconsinites. I believe that the unclaimed property funds should not be sitting in Madison but should be actively returned to the rightful owners, our citizens. These funds can play a vital role in supporting families during these tough times. By working to build a more inclusive investment strategy, we can focus on reinvesting in our communities, creating jobs, and strengthening our economy. As State Treasurer, I will build coalitions with government agencies and public and private partners to address the affordability crisis facing many Wisconsinites. A key initiative will be expanding financial literacy education, equipping our citizens with the tools they need to manage finances and build wealth effectively. In addition, I am dedicated to attracting and retaining talent in Wisconsin by creating an environment that supports business development and growth. Collaborating closely with local governments, we will identify challenges that hold our communities back and work together to implement strategies that enhance economic opportunities. By integrating these efforts, we can elevate the quality of life for all residents.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about public policy areas focused on accountability and transparency in government. It's crucial that we protect and grow investment funds to adequately support our schools, roads, local governments, and overall infrastructure. Additionally I believe in the importance policies and initiatives collaborating with partners to address financial literacy and business development. This is vital for attracting and retaining talent in Wisconsin, ultimately building a robust economy. I am also committed to tackling the affordability crisis by implementing strategies that lower the cost of living. By prioritizing these areas, we can improve the quality of life for all residents and create a sustainable future for our communities.
