In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I’m Bill Mercier — a husband, father, aviation professional, and proud Buckeye. Though my career has taken me across the country to work with major airlines, the Pentagon, and international aviation organizations, Columbus has always been home. I grew up in Upper Arlington, attended Windermere Elementary, became an Eagle Scout, and learned early the value of community by delivering newspapers, mowing lawns, and helping neighbors. Those experiences taught me that strong communities are built by people who care about where they live.
While studying at The Ohio State University, I worked in the Ohio House of Representatives under Speaker Jo Ann Davidson. After college, I began my aviation career at Don Scott Field, which led to Directorships roles at the major passenger airlines of the US. Today, I serve as a Senior Aviation Consultant, helping airlines and the Department of Defense navigate safety, maintenance, operations, and long‑term planning. These combined experiences have led to my deep knowledge base of both government operations and the needs of the private sector.
The most important part of my life is my family. My wife, Leslie, and I are raising our son, Jack, in the same community that shaped me. Seeing him grow up in the parks and neighborhoods I loved reminds me why preserving and strengthening our community matters. I believe in common sense, civility, and listening — and I care deeply about ensuring Central Ohio remains a place where families can thrive.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Ohio needs tax reform at both the state and local level. I am focused on property tax reform and income tax reform that is smarter, streamlined and reduces government spending to keep more money in the pockets of our citizens.Ohio needs a renewed focus on educating on children. I am focused on common sense education reform that supports parents as partners and allows every student to be prepared for real life.Ohioans need to feel safe and protected in their communities. I am focused on revitalize public safety by partnering with police and strengthening community trust throughout District 7
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
There is absolutely no substitute for real listening in leadership. I am wholly focused on hearing the needs of our community and working with residents to find common sense solutions. This aspect of citizen led public service is often bypassed and I am committed to returning to this model of representation. Also, at the core of listening is respect and decorum. I am seeking to return our political discussions to a level of civility that embodies respectful communication of ideas.
