In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am an incumbent State Representative currently serving my second term, having been first elected in 2022 and reelected in 2024. As a lifelong resident of Muskegon, it is an honor to represent my neighbors. Before running for office, I worked as a staffer for my predecessor, State Representative Terry Sabo.. In my time as a staffer, and now as a legislator, I’ve built lasting relationships with many stakeholder groups on every important issue facing Michiganders. Having worked in the Michigan Legislature for such a long time, I know my way around when it comes to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and I understand how the system works better than most. Previously I served on the Board of Directors of Read Muskegon and as past President of the Knights of Columbus Council 706 Building Association. I am a proud former member of UFCW Local 951 where I was actively involved in my union leadership representing my fellow colleagues while working at Meijer.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

The struggle is real, people are struggling to afford the basics of life and feel like they can't get ahead as easily as their parent’s generations. We must work to address the biggest costs families face - housing, childcare, healthcare, and energy. Housing reform is a big part of this making it easier to build desperately needed housing. We should continue to expand child care solutions that work like Tri-Share, splitting the cost of childcare between the state, the individual, and their employer. Just as important, we must make sure people have high quality jobs to earn a living. I am a strong supporter of collective bargaining rights and have been a leading voice on workforce development issues.Michigan’s education system needs improvement; anyone who says otherwise is being disingenuous. Michigan ranks near the bottom of the nation in 4th grade reading levels. I am a strong believer in the literacy push being championed in Lansing. We must invest in evidence supported solutions. Strong public education is the backbone of strong communities, and we must make sure that we are creating thriving environments for students to learn and supportive environments for teachers and support staff. I support the expansion of Michigan’s reconnect program to 21 year olds helping to create a more highly skilled workforce. We are so blessed to live on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan; it is what makes our community so special and unique. It is a resource we must treasure and protect. We need to make sure we have common sense protections for the environment while also making sure to be an attractive place to do business. I support forward looking energy solutions that will begin the process of electrification as renewables and storage continue to come down in cost and meet reliability thresholds. Energy is quickly becoming more expensive and we must make sure energy is affordable and reliable for working class people. I am currently working on a bill that would allow access to small plug-in balcony solar systems.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I care deeply about my community and my hometown. My highest priorities will always be making sure the voices and needs of Greater Muskegon are being met and heard at the state level. I am particularly passionate about workforce and talent development.
