Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Whitfield Harrington was born in Belzoni, Mississippi, as the twentieth of 21 children and lives in Schaumburg, Illinois. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Delta State University. He moved to Chicago in 2013 and serves as a pastor of Prayer City of Chicago Church. Harrington's other career experience includes working in banking, insurance, and financial services, including operating his own insurance practice. His campaign joins that life experience with a belief that public leadership should anticipate challenges, explain them plainly, and prepare people with practical solutions.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
1. Renovate the American Dream — Make Life Affordable Again
Whitfield Harrington’s campaign centers on restoring economic opportunity for working families. His proposals address the cost of living through job creation, stronger American manufacturing, affordable pathways to homeownership, lower health-care costs, and tax changes intended to let families keep more of what they earn. His message is that economic policy should produce practical improvements in everyday life—from Chicago and the suburbs to small towns and rural Illinois.2. Move to the Middle — Independent Leadership Focused on Solutions
Harrington is running as an Independent for U.S. Senate and presents his candidacy as an alternative to governing primarily through the Democratic-Republican divide. His “Move to the Middle” message emphasizes practical problem-solving, congressional and government reform, and consideration of policies based on their results rather than their party origin. His campaign asks voters to consider an approach centered on cooperation, accountability, and addressing unfinished problems.3. Expand Opportunity Across Illinois — Urban, Suburban and Rural
Harrington’s platform addresses opportunity through health care, education, employment, housing and rural economic development. Publicly stated proposals include expanding Direct Primary Care, addressing shortages of doctors and nurses, making the first year of community college free, supporting domestic manufacturing, protecting farmers’ right to repair equipment, and creating additional pathways to homeownership. His campaign frames these proposals around expanding economic opportunity throughout Illinois.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Harrington is passionate about policies that directly affect the financial well-being of everyday Illinoisans. As the 20th of 21 children, he learned early what it means for a family to stretch every dollar and make limited resources go a long way. That experience shapes his focus on addressing the cost-of-living crisis for seniors on fixed incomes, working-class families, small business owners, and young adults. He supports practical policies that make it more affordable to live, work, raise a family, build a business, and retire with dignity in Illinois.
