In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I’ve called Fort Smith home for more than 37 years after moving here from Missouri, and this is where my family has built our life. I have four children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren who call this area home. Like so many families in our district, we work here, volunteer here, attend our excellent local public schools, and worship alongside friends and neighbors.
I’ve spent my career serving Arkansas families—20 years in radio and television and 15 years in public education. I’ve also worked with local organizations advocating for students and educators because I believe strong public schools are the backbone of a strong community.
My experiences allow me to see firsthand the grit, determination, and resilience of Arkansas families—and the real challenges they face when decisions are made by out-of-touch politicians.
I’m running for State Representative to deliver practical, people-focused progress on the issues we talk about every day—at the coffee shop, on the sidelines, and around the kitchen table: good jobs, honest government, and a fair shot for every child in our public schools.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Strong Public Schools for Every Child, Every Community
•
Fully fund public schools so classrooms, teachers, and student support services have the needed resources for each student.
•
Public accountability for public dollars by holding all taxpayer-funded schools to the same academic and financial standards and opposing unaccountable voucher programs.
•
Support early literacy, career and technical education, special education, and teacher retention to close achievement gaps and strengthen our workforce.Economic Security: Investing in Strong Families for a Stronger Arkansas
•
Strengthen family economic security by addressing the rising cost of living and ensuring working families can get ahead.
•
Expand access to essentials by supporting affordable childcare, protecting SNAP and WIC, and ensuring children have access to free, reliable school and summer meals.Protect and improve access to healthcare by defending Medicaid and Medicare, lowering prescription drug costs, and investing in all Arkansas hospitals and expanding mental health care availability. Providing support to help our rural hospitals stay open
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Let me be clear: Education is the great equalizer.
A fully funded public education system isn’t optional, it 's essential. Our democracy depends on an educated electorate. When people have access to good schools, they have a real chance to break cycles of poverty
The Governor is only interested in the wealth of a few instead of the future of our children. The Education system is being drained to cater to charter schools and those with ulterior motives. Right now the legislature faces a funding crisis of their own making. And it could have been avoided by funding public education and holding school boards to the task.
That’s not common sense. And it’s not leadership.
