Background

Wendell Jones was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and lives in Piedmont, South Carolina. Jones graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1989. He earned a B.A. in finance from Wofford College in 1993. Jones' career experience includes owning a business and working as a pastor with Changing Your Mind Ministries. He has served as the president of the Wendell Jones Leadership Institute.[1][2]

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Wendell Jones is the founding pastor for Changing Your Mind Ministries. He is also the owner of South Atlantic BioCleaning & Janitorial Services which specializes in janitorial staffing, floor maintenance and sanitizing against COVID. He also owns Wendell Jones Leadership Institute that provides entrepreneurial training as well as management and leadership development. He is a graduate of Wofford College with a degree in finance. He is a certified entrepreneurial coach certified through the Kauffman Foundation. He is the 2021 recipient of the Silver Crescent Award for the state of South Carolina. Has served on several local boards including Urban League of the Upstate and the American Heart Association.

Barack Obama and Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela's example of building bridges and created global awareness of the struggles and strengths of South Africa is an example I'd like to mirror.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Integrity in his/her committment to place the needs of their constituents above personal gain.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Vigorously fight for the needs of constituents. Willingness to compromise for the greater good. Integrity above personal gain.

What legacy would you like to leave?

Bridged gap between parties and races for the betterment of the entire state of South Carolina

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

The initial launching of the space shuttle. I was 10 years old.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Commercial banker with Wachovia Bank (now Wells Fargo) for 12 years.

What is your favorite book? Why?

Who Owns The Ice House? Deals with entrepreneurship during much more segregated times.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

To promote an atmosphere of bipartisan cooperation for the sake of all residents of the state.

What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

Rigid bipartisan roadblocks.

What are the benefits and drawbacks of a unicameral state legislature, in your opinion?

It may eliminate some of the bipartisan bickering.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

There are benefits in that the learning curve for procedures isn't as steep; however, a fresh set of eyes that comes with newcomers can also be beneficial.

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

Absolutely in order to find happy mediums through which we can serve our constituents.
