In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I’m Victor Hernandez, and I was born and raised in Orange County, California. I live in Brea, the City of Art, but my life began in Santa Ana. I have two kids, Avery and Anniston, and I’m married to my beautiful wife Heaven. I enjoy watching and playing fútbol (soccer) and collecting. I also volunteer with and donate to organizations that provide resources to families in need.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Community over corporations: Our communities need the support of their elected representatives to ensure we have safe, stable, thriving, and resilient economies. That can only happen when elected officials put constituents, not corporations, first. Our planet is our home, let’s protect it: Our green spaces improve air quality, protect biodiversity, bring our communities together, and support mental and physical well-being. Elected officials must be stewards of land, water, air and our precious ecosystems for the sake of everyone in our community. Our voice is our power: The current top-two primary and first-past-the-post voting system limits voters’ choices and excludes third-party and independent candidates. Ranked Choice Voting and proportional representation are steps toward a more robust democracy.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I’m extremely passionate about ranked-choice voting (RCV), single-payer healthcare like CalCare, housing for all, rent control, and securing more funds to keep our parks and streets clean.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

I believe the best candidates are good listeners who demonstrate integrity and solidarity and exude confidence.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

My responsibilities are to listen to constituents' concerns and find solutions. We should represent people, not corporations or other countries.
