In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am a small business owner with years of experience in the non-profit sector.
I listen to stakeholders to identify needs, work with community leaders on both sides of the political aisle to create solutions and implement those solutions.
I firmly believe that missions can be accomplished when people of various political party affiliations believe in the same end result.
Our business provides high quality commercial space in a prime location for local entrepreneurs and international corporations from by-the-hour rentals to long-term leases. We work with businesses to provide the infrastructure they need (internet, shared conference room space, gender neutral restrooms, adequate parking and other services) for success.
I have 13+ years of experience as Executive Director of the Foundation for Daviess County Public Schools. I secured donations to level the educational playing field for at-risk students and provide educational experiences not funded by tax dollars. The Foundation provided funding to alleviate some of the stress of un-funded mandates by the Kentucky legislature.
During my time at the Foundation, I became aware of the need in our community for housing for homeless and insufficiently housed high school students. I founded the Empowerment Academy, a 501(c)3 that provides a long-term housing solution for at-risk students.
My husband and I are the parents of four adult children, in-laws to two sons and grandparents of three.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Fully funded public education is the foundation for a vibrant community. All Kentuckians deserve adequate healthcare.Economic development is dependent upon the level of education and overall healthcare of our population and access to affordable housing.
1) The Kentucky Constitution mandates the legislature provide funding for ALL public school students in the Commonwealth. Why does the current legislature continuously underfund our children and their educational futures? Why is Kentucky's current legislature satisfied with ranking 42nd in the country in teacher pay?
2) More than 50% of Kentucky's 5 year olds are not educationally prepared to enter Kindergarten. PreK for ALL of Kentucky's 4 year olds is imperative to educational success of Kentucky's students. PreK will also help reduce the child care shortage for families and boost workforce options for women.
