In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

People who waste a $2 billion yearly surplus and turn it into a $1.4 billion deficit do not deserve to be re-elected. Most of the tax cuts went to the very wealthy--they got a 50% tax cut. Your average family didn't get enough to notice. The flat tax was not only unfair, it has put the state on a course toward financial ruin. Not one republican has mentioned a plan for solving the deficit problem once the savings run out. It's irresponsible and foolish. In addition to cutting taxes for the wealthy, republicans also increased spending. The school voucher program alone costs more than $300 million. The flat tax and school vouchers are why we have a $1.4 billion deficit and they both need to be repealed. We can't meaningfully reduce property taxes without the state's finances being in order.

With a properly funded budget, we could afford to bring our school funding up to a level that at least covers the rate of inflation. Our schools have been underfunded for the last 10 years. We used to be #1 in education, we sure aren't now.

We have some of the worst bridges in the country. We need a state-wide effort to address this issue.

Finally, republicans have spent much of the last four years attacking trans kids and adults, banning books, and attacking school teachers. We have real work to do, let's leave the culture wars out of state government.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Balance the budget! No tax cuts for millionaires and no school vouchers for rich folks, either. We need to reduce property taxes by replacing those revenues with funds from the state income tax.Let's address real problems, not made-up culture war issues.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Rural Iowa has a housing problem. In Villisca we tear down a couple houses every year and build nothing to replace them. Our town and many others are slowing disappearing. We need affordable housing for young families and jobs to keep them here.
