What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Education- we have a teacher shortage, declining graduation rates and we spend too much time on testing in the classroom.

2) Economic development is the key to growing and sustaining any community. We need to do a better job of attracting businesses and industry to our state.

3) Job training and retraining-we need to focus on workforce development so that we can attract and retain businesses.[3][4]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I am especially passionate about education. I have taught high school math for 24 years and have watched my profession change and not for the better. We spend an incredible amount of time teaching to a test, fewer college graduates or becoming teachers and high school graduation rates are declining. The state needs to back public education and make it a noble profession again.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

[the profile publisher] also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Tonya Pfaff answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

I think it is important to be honest, hard-working and a good listener. Many people are very passionate about their issues and it is important to have an open mind, listen and be responsive. Government should be for the people, not for the elected official.[4]

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was a newspaper carrier. I started in 7th grade and delivered papers every morning until I went to college. I learned early on that people depend on their carrier to show up everyday, on time and do their job, which I did.[4]

What process do you favor for redistricting?

I think it is important to hire an independent, nonpartisan council to redistrict.[4]
