Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Tommy grew up in a working-class New England neighborhood. He worked hard at school and earned a full merit scholarship to NC State, where he earned three bachelor's degrees and met his wife. After earning a master's degree in Ireland as a Mitchell Scholar, Tommy enrolled in a PhD program at Boston University and he and his wife Jenn settled in Brookline.
After earning his PhD in Systems Engineering Tommy began working at Synapse Energy Economics. He's been there for the past nine years, fighting for utility customers and for cleaner environmental outcomes around the country, including the retirement of coal-fired power plants, the prevention of new natural gas infrastructure, and the construction of new wind turbines, solar farms, and energy efficiency installations.
Tommy has been active in Brookline, volunteering for the Brookline Community Foundation and participating the Rotary's Dancing with the Stars fund raiser. Tommy was first elected to Town Meeting in 2007, and also served as Constable. He's authored nine local bills, covering everything from education to clean energy, diversity to public health.
Tommy brings his values, education, experience, and commitment to the State House, where he fights for the Town of Brookline and for the Commonwealth.

I bring our progressive values to Beacon Hill.I work with colleagues across the spectrum to advance legislation that improves life in Brookline and across the Commonwealth.I'm active in the district, supporting individuals, neighborhoods, and local organizations, businesses, and government.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I'm focused on social and economic justice, public education, and environmental and climate policy.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
I worked as a newspaper boy from age 9 until 14. I delivered the newspapers 364 early mornings each year, regardless of the weather. As my experience grew, so too did my number of customers. The thousands of dollars I saved eventually funded my summer abroad in college, where I studied in Egypt and Austria.
