In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Tom is an Army veteran, lawyer, and lifelong Michigander. Tom was born and raised in Michigan, the son of an auto engineer and a Presbyterian minister.

Tom graduated from public high school in Oakland County, college in Kalamazoo, and earned his law degree from the University of Michigan. After law school, Tom worked for the state’s oldest law firm. There, Tom helped Michigan businesses obtain financing to build and grow and worked on pro-bono cases including helping asylum seekers and community organizations. In 2019, Tom followed a call to serve, accepting a commission in the Army as a judge advocate (Army lawyer). Like all veterans, Tom swore an oath protect and defend the constitution. During six years in the Army, Tom served in South Korea, Egypt, Kentucky, and Washington. In the Army, Tom advised military commanders on the rule of law, helped Soldiers with personal legal challenges, and served as a prosecutor. In 2025, the DoD made policy changes that kicked brave Soldiers out of the military based on their identity, regardless of medical waivers, deploying active-duty military members in American cities, and others. Rather than go along with these bad policies, Tom resigned his commission and moved back to Michigan to continue his lifelong commitment to public service in a new way. Now, Tom is a homeowner in Sterling Heights with his wife, Jin.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Every Michigander deserves a good quality of life. That means great schools, safe communities, world-class healthcare, a vibrant and growing economy, clean air, and clean water.Life in Michigan has become unaffordable. Our state needs to invest in affordable and accessible childcare, affordable healthcare and prescription drugs, efficient government services, a tax code that is fair and calls on the wealthy to carry their fair share, and utility bills that are reasonable with service that is reliable. For too long, leaders in Lansing have ignored the needs of working families, seniors, and small businesses in Michigan. It’s time for a new generation of leaders ready to fight for Michigan’s working families. If elected, Tom will show up, listen, and fight everyday for working families in Troy, Sterling Heights, and Madison Heights.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Education - Michigan’s children are the future. Tom will fight to ensure Michigan teachers and students are treated well and given every opportunity to thrive from pre-K through trade school or college, and beyond. Michigan families also need affordable childcare. Tom will work to ensure that every Michigan family that relies on high quality childcare, can get it and afford it.

Healthcare - Tom will fight to make healthcare cheaper, more accessible, and better. Everyone in Michigan, particularly seniors, veterans, children, and working families, deserves to have high quality affordable healthcare and prescription drugs.
