In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I'm Todd Buchwald. I am a proud 32-year resident of Minnesota and love living here in Burnsville! We have a great community and a state worth fighting for to make more affordable and ensure that families and businesses have a place to grow and prosper.
After graduating from Iowa State University, I spent my career serving individuals and businesses. For the last 22 years, I worked closely with small business owners, helping them and their employees navigate the complexities of healthcare plans. I retired in February 2026, and my career taught me the value of listening, practical problem-solving, and finding solutions that meet the needs of individuals.
My commitment to this community is something I try to live out every day. In 2020, I was incredibly honored to receive the Burnsville Community Builder Award. In my retirement, I am dedicated to serving others and giving back for the great blessings I have received.
My wife, Stacey, and I are the proud parents of two grown sons, and we just experienced the joy of welcoming our very first grandson, Simon, into the world this August! I want to make Minnesota a better place for the next generations. That is why I am running for the Minnesota State House."
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Restoring Integrity to the State House.
Minnesotans deserve a government they can trust. I will bring transparency, honesty, and principled leadership to St. Paul, ensuring that our state legislature works for everyday citizens, not special interests. It is time to bring a standard of integrity back to the legislative process.Demanding Accountability & Lowering Taxes-
We need to respect the hardworking taxpayers of our community. I will demand independent accounting and rigorous, transparent audits of both state and local government spending. By taking a hard look at our programs, eliminating government waste, and ensuring accountability, we can lower the tax burden and keep more money in the pockets of our families.Driving Economic Prosperity & Job Growth.
A thriving economy starts with supporting the businesses that build it. Having spent over two decades helping small businesses navigate complex systems, I know what it takes to foster an environment where employers can actually prosper. I will work closely with community partners, such as the Chamber of Commerce, to remove red tape, grow our local economy, and attract higher-paying jobs to our state.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about restoring affordability and financial accountability to Minnesota. Families and local businesses are at a breaking point due to a rising cost of living and a severe lack of government oversight.
During my 22-year career helping small businesses navigate complex healthcare plans, I learned that financial survival requires strict oversight. Yet, our state operates without that discipline, losing our tax dollars to unchecked fraud.
I am fighting to mandate independent, private-sector audits of all state programs. We must eliminate waste, stop the fraud, and lower taxes to ensure a prosperous future for our children and grandchildren.
What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?
I am proud to announce my current endorsements from Minnesotans for Health & Parental Rights and Stand for Health Freedom
