In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a retired teacher, school bus driver, foster parent, dairy farmer, volunteer firefighter/paramedic, and Registered Nurse. I have served as a Democratic poll worker for many years and grew tired of seeing only blanks on the Democratic side of the slate. The people of Ohio deserve a choice if the exercise of election is to have any real meaning. I encourage all others to fill the gaps as well.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Zoning is a critical mission concerning quality of life for all Ohioans. Data Centers, High Tension lines, factory farms: each of these physical developments has an outsized effect on their immediate neighbors. We deserve transparency in their creation and a voice in their management.Taxation, specifically property taxes are of crucial importance. Again, local input is critical. The fate of public services hangs in the balance. EMS, Fire, Schools, and transportation are publicly funded, essential, and under stress. Rural volunteers are fast disappearing; centralization of response or paid staff are the current suggested solutions. Local input is needed. The burden should be shared equally by each and every resident. Those with reduced means should not be forced out of their homes in the funding process. Our unhoused population deserves a focused attention seeking innovative solutions. They are pushed into the shadows as a blight on our cities and towns but they are veterans, parents, and medically needy citizens deserving of our compassion.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am concerned about any and all public policy discussions which affect my neighbors in District 40. I am only now, as I travel the district, learning of individual concerns that will impact us all.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Harry Truman, who came from nowhere, sorry Missouri, and advanced the programs of the everyday citizen in the face of doubt and disparagement.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

integrity and transparency

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

to represent all the district inhabitants no matter what their economic or political position.

What legacy would you like to leave?

That anyone can volunteer to represent their neighbors with good will and energy.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Pouring concrete sidewalks and curbs for Grosscup Construction my Junior and Senior year of high school.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

The curse of procrastination. If there was a pill that would cure it I would probably take it tomorrow.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

All levels of state government should be in communication and coordinate actions for the benefit of the entire state and all its inhabitants.

What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

To extricate ourselves from the supermajority that tramples roughshod over the will of the citizens.

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

Necessary and desirable for a functioning democracy.

What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?

numerous labor and progressive affiliations

What was the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember?

The assassination of JFK
