Campaign website

Alexander’s campaign website stated the following:

JOBS AND THE ECONOMY

The offshore wind energy sector is not just an environmentally sustainable solution for our energy needs but also a powerful engine for job creation. According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for wind turbine service technicians is projected to grow by an astonishing 61% from 2019 to 2029. This growth rate far outpaces the average for all other occupations, signaling a robust and expanding job market in this sector. South Jersey, particularly the Second District, stands to benefit immensely from this trend due to its strategic geographical location along the Atlantic coast.

Tim is steadfastly dedicated to championing a comprehensive and inclusive wind energy initiative for the Second District. His vision is to deliver dependable, eco-friendly energy solutions while actively engaging with community members to address any concerns or questions they may have. Recognizing the immense economic and environmental benefits, Tim believes that the growth and prosperity of our district are intrinsically linked to the responsible development of renewable energy sources like wind power.

The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, signed into law by President Trump, placed a cap on State and Local Tax (SALT) deductions that have disproportionately impacted middle-class families in South Jersey and across the country. New Jerseyans are taxed enough, and the limitations placed on us by the former President were felt in our wallets. Moreover, this limitation has added financial strain to households grappling with elevated property taxes.

Tim is steadfastly committed to advocating for the expansion of SALT deductions. By lifting this cap, we can offer immediate and meaningful financial relief to middle-class families in South Jersey, empowering them to manage their financial responsibilities better and invest in the communities they call home

WOMEN’S RIGHTS

Tim will protect women’s health care and believes that health care decisions should be made by a woman and her doctor, not politicians in Washington.

Tim believes it is outrageous that women working full-time make 82 cents to every dollar a man earns. The gap is even wider for Black women, who make just 63 cents compared to white men. Tim believes we have a long way to go to ensure that women are paid equally for equal work, and he will strongly support measures like the Paycheck Fairness Act to ensure we make progress.

While New Jersey has a stronger paid family leave program than most other states, Tim wants the federal government to ensure that nobody has to choose between their children and their job. He believes it is shameful that the United States is the only developed country in the world that does not have a federal paid family leave program in place.

GUN VIOLENCE

Tim’s career in law enforcement and perspective as a gun owner will allow him to act as a bridge-builder in Washington and be a national voice on the issue of gun violence prevention.

As a former law enforcement officer and gun violence survivor, Tim understands that we need to get guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals. Tim’s lived experience makes him the ideal leader in Congress for commonsense solutions to end this crisis.

A gun owner himself, Tim supports responsible gun ownership and commonsense solutions like universal background checks, extreme risk protection orders, and safe storage laws. Since our gun safety laws are sadly only as strong as their weakest link, Tim knows we must act at the federal level to protect our communities from the scourge of gun violence.

SOCIAL JUSTICE AND CIVIL RIGHTS

At a young age, Tim was shot at and beaten by police officers. Following that transformative experience, Tim felt deeply inspired by his grandfather, who encouraged him to pursue a career in law enforcement with the specific aim of instigating meaningful reforms from within.

Tim became a law enforcement officer and is now a civil rights attorney and a nationally recognized voice on the issues of criminal justice and reform.

Tim’s personal and professional experiences have empowered him to lead on these issues. One of his top priorities in Congress will be working on bipartisan legislation to end excessive force and promote transparency in local police departments. We must hold our law enforcement to the highest standard and invest in proper training – by reimagining our training practices, we can root out dysfunctional norms and keep our communities safe.

Tim will fight racial and religious profiling of any kind, work to end the school-to-prison pipeline, support modernizing our federal cannabis and drug provisions, and support the reform of our non-violent sentencing laws.

LGBTQ+ ADVOCACY

Tim is not just an ally but a fervent advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, a commitment that holds personal resonance for him as the father of a daughter who is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. In a climate where anti-LGBTQ+ legislation is gaining traction in state capitols nationwide, Tim recognizes the urgent need for comprehensive federal protections. He passionately believes that passing the Equality Act is not merely a legislative priority but a moral imperative to safeguard all Americans from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. For Tim, this fight is not abstract; it’s a deeply personal mission to create a more inclusive and equitable society for his daughter and countless others who deserve to live free from prejudice and bias.

ENVIRONMENT

Tim advocates for President Biden’s visionary environmental and infrastructure initiatives, recognizing their potential to transform the nation for the better. He is committed to being a vocal presence in Congress to ensure that South Jersey is not merely an afterthought but a priority in legislative discussions and allocations. As climate change increasingly impacts our local communities, affecting everything from our shorelines to our agricultural sectors, Tim understands the urgency of securing equitable resources for both neighborhoods and businesses in South Jersey. He will tirelessly fight to ensure that any legislative package addresses the broader challenges of climate change and infrastructure and specifically caters to his district’s unique needs and opportunities. For Tim, it’s not just about passing legislation; it’s about crafting policies that serve the best interests of his constituents, creating a more sustainable and prosperous future for South Jersey.

PROTECTING OUR DEMOCRACY

America has long been a beacon for Democracy worldwide, but our institutions have weathered attacks coming from both foreign regimes and bad actors at home. Tim is running for Congress to protect and expand the right to vote. He believes the right to vote should be cherished and defended from partisan attacks.

Tim supports H.R. 1, otherwise known as For the People Act, which will reduce the outsized influence of monied interests in our elections and will ban partisan gerrymandering. He also backs the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, which would protect the voting rights of communities of color and reinstate key provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Tim believes that we must pass both pieces of legislation swiftly. As a Black American, Tim knows that we cannot return to the days of Jim Crow.

Tim recognizes corporate and dark money has had a corrosive impact on our democracy. He has not and will not take a dime of corporate PAC money.

AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE

The healthcare issue is deeply personal for Tim, especially given the life-altering experience of his daughter contracting a rare disease that ultimately necessitated a heart transplant. Her ongoing battle with this long-term illness has made her reliant on the public healthcare system, illuminating for Tim the critical importance of affordable and accessible medical care. He understands firsthand that the stakes are not just high—they are a matter of life and death. Tim is committed to fighting for a healthcare system that serves all Americans, regardless of their financial or medical circumstances. He knows that making healthcare more affordable and accessible isn’t just a policy issue; it’s a moral imperative that can save lives, much like the medical interventions that saved his daughter’s life. Tim will be a relentless advocate for healthcare reform in Congress, driven by his personal experience and the understanding that every American deserves quality healthcare when needed.

NATIONAL SECURITY

Tim firmly believes that national security and meaningful immigration reform are not mutually exclusive; rather, they can and should go hand-in-hand. A strong and secure nation knows how to protect its borders while upholding the values that make America a beacon of hope for people worldwide.

Border security is undeniably crucial for maintaining the integrity of our nation. Advanced technology, better-trained personnel, and effective partnerships with neighboring countries are key components in ensuring that our borders are secure and efficient. However, it’s equally important to remember that many individuals and families come to the United States seeking better opportunities and safety. Our immigration policies should not punish these families; instead, they should offer a fair and humane pathway to citizenship or legal status.

By striking a balance between robust border security and compassionate immigration reform, we can create a system that respects the dignity of all individuals while keeping our nation safe. This approach aligns with our American values, enriches our communities, and strengthens our national fabric. I am committed to working tirelessly in Congress to achieve these goals and ensure a brighter, safer future for all.

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I was born and raised in New Jersey, and for the last 30 years, I have lived in the District. As a husband, a father, a former police officer, a prosecutor, and a civil rights activist, I am the only candidate who understands the complexity of issues affecting New Jersey citizens. Before becoming a police officer, I survived being shot at, brutally assaulted, and arrested by police officers who claimed it was a case of mistaken identity. I cleared my name and joined the force to change how police officers interact with the communities they serve in hopes of preventing what happened to me from happing to anyone else. I retired as a Captain of County Detectives for the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office and immediately utilized my law degree from Rutgers Law School to become a Prosecutor. As time passed, I transitioned to a career as a Civil Rights attorney. Today, I am proud to know that I fight for people who have had their rights violated by government agencies, employers, or others. I am accustomed to listening to people with an ear for details and am uniquely qualified to bring people together because I have experienced both sides of the discussion. I not only know how to communicate with people, but I also know how to listen effectively, which is why I am running for Congress.

I will work with anyone who wants to bring jobs, economic improvements, and relief for small businesses to South Jersey.

HEALTHCARE

We've heard it before from politicians: healthcare is too expensive and not accessible. Well, I know it firsthand and I'm fed up with the political line and politicians not working together to fix it.

SAFETY AND RACIAL JUSTICE

Police brutality is real, often overlooked, and even as a future police officer, I have been victimized by it myself. As a young man waiting to enter the police academy, I was shot at, assaulted, and detained by police who confused my identity with that of another black man.

Campaign website

Alexander's campaign website stated the following:

JOBS AND THE ECONOMY

One of Tim’s top priorities is to create good-paying jobs throughout South Jersey. He strongly believes that working families deserve a living wage and that no one should have to choose between putting food on the table or paying their rent.

Tim believes in commonsense solutions to fix unemployment and underemployment throughout the region. One of those is to build and refresh our infrastructure.

South Jersey is in need of a massive expansion of public transit. By significantly expanding rail and busing, our region can create good-paying jobs and connect workers, businesses, and families in an affordable, environmentally-friendly way. In addition, Tim wants to utilize and leverage our existing infrastructure, such as the Atlantic City airport, and expand transit options for those living in and traveling to our region.

Tim is also focused on making sure families within the district can make ends meet. The American Rescue Plan’s child tax and earned income credit expansion will help tens of thousands of families in South Jersey, but Tim wants to focus on making these permanent. He believes that the government should do everything it can to side with working families, not special interests.

WOMEN'S RIGHTS

Tim will protect women’s health care and believes that health care decisions should be made by a woman and her doctor, not politicians in Washington.

Tim believes it is outrageous that women working full-time make 82 cents to every dollar a man earns. The gap is even wider for Black women, who make just 63 cents compared to white men. Tim is an ardent supporter and ally of the LGBTQ+ community. With anti-LGBTQ+ legislation making its way through state capitols throughout the country, Tim knows that we must pass the Equality Act to protect all Americans from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

ENVIRONMENT

Tim fully supports President Biden’s environmental and infrastructure plans and he will fight to ensure that South Jersey is not forgotten in Congress. As climate change affects our neighborhoods and businesses, we need to make sure both get their fair share in any piece of legislation.

PROTECTING OUR DEMOCRACY

America has long been a beacon for Democracy worldwide, but our institutions have weathered attacks coming from both foreign regimes and bad actors at home. He knows making health care more affordable and accessible for all Americans can save lives.[2]
