In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Terence Collins, and I am a former school board member in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and long-time advocate for Michigan students and families.

I was honored to receive the endorsement of the Michigan Republican Party at the March 28, 2026 Nomination convention. Michigan families deserve a State Board of Education grounded in conservative principles—strong academics, parental rights, local control, safe schools, and responsible use of every taxpayer dollar.

As a candidate for the State Board of Education, I will focus on using data, transparency, and common-sense conservative solutions to drive improvements in five key areas

Back-to-Basics Academic Excellence

Fairness, Opportunity, and Fiscal Responsibility

Supporting Teachers, Empowering Parents, Limiting Bureaucracy

Safe, Orderly, and Respectful Schools

Rigorous, Age-Appropriate Curriculum and Real-World Pathways

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Back-to-Basics Academic Excellence

I will prioritize strong reading and math foundations, especially by third and eighth grade, with an emphasis on proven, phonics-based literacy and mastery of core math skills. I will support assessments and accountability that set high expectations and help schools improve—without lowering standards or turning classrooms into endless test prep.Fairness, Opportunity, and Fiscal Responsibility

I will advocate for transparent state funding that puts students and classrooms ahead of bureaucracy, recognizes the needs of high poverty, rural, and under resourced districts, and demands clear results for every taxpayer dollar. My conservative goal is simple: a student’s chances of success should not depend on their address, and spending must be tied to outcomesSupporting Teachers, Empowering Parents, Limiting Bureaucracy

Recognizing that excellent teaching is the most important in school factor for student success, I will support rigorous yet practical teacher preparation and certification standards, while reducing red tape so educators can focus on teaching, not paperwork. I will stand firmly for parental rights and transparency in curriculum, ensuring parents can review materials and have a strong voice in decisions affecting their children.
