Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Tanya Lloyd is a public school teacher, mom, and lifelong resident of Lockhart, Texas. She has spent more than two decades teaching students in a Title I school district in rural Texas and has seen firsthand how federal policy decisions affect families, classrooms, and communities. Tanya still lives on the family farm her parents built using her father’s VA benefits, grounding her in the realities of rural life and working families.
As an educator and Texas AFT member, Tanya understands the challenges facing public schools, including underfunding, staffing shortages, and increasing demands on teachers and students. She has served on school district advisory and bond oversight committees and has been actively involved in her community through education-focused service and volunteer work.
Tanya is running for Congress because she believes leadership should be practical, honest, and focused on people rather than politics. She is committed to lowering costs for working families, fully funding public education, strengthening rural healthcare access, and investing in infrastructure that helps communities thrive. She believes Congress needs a kindergarten teacher — someone who listens, tells the truth, and puts people first.

Families across TX-27 are working hard but still struggling to keep up with rising costs. Healthcare bills, childcare expenses, student debt, housing, groceries, and gas are putting constant pressure on household budgets. Tanya Lloyd is running to lower costs for working families by fighting for affordable healthcare, reducing prescription drug prices, expanding access to childcare and higher education, and opposing economic policies that raise prices without helping workers. She believes families who do the work should be able to afford the basics, plan for the future, and feel secure in their communities.Public education is essential to opportunity, workforce development, and strong communities, especially in rural Texas. As a public school teacher with more than twenty years of classroom experience, Tanya Lloyd understands the impact of chronic underfunding, staffing shortages, and increasing demands on educators. She will fight to fully fund public schools, defend the U.S. Department of Education, oppose voucher programs that divert public dollars to private interests, and support teachers with fair pay, adequate staffing, and resources so every student can succeed regardless of ZIP code.Rural communities deserve the same access to healthcare, infrastructure, and opportunity as urban areas. Tanya Lloyd will advocate for investments in rural hospitals and clinics, expanded high-speed broadband, reliable water systems, and a stronger electric grid that can withstand extreme weather. She supports infrastructure projects that create good local jobs and strengthen long-term economic stability, not short-term corporate gain. Tanya believes federal policy must reflect the realities of rural Texans who are often overlooked, ensuring communities have the tools they need to stay connected, healthy, and economically viable for future generations.

I am not a politician, I’m a first grade public school teacher. As a life-long Republican voter, I am running as a Democrat for Congress because I am deeply concerned about the future of this country: the extreme attacks on our public education system, on women's healthcare, and the political division threatening our democracy.

Campaign website
Lloyd’s campaign website stated the following:
Public Education
Tanya will protect public education from extreme Republicans who seek to gut our vital institutions and turn off Friday Night Lights. She will support programs that uplift underserved youth, invest in K-12 students, and improve college affordability.
Women’s Healthcare
Tanya’s experience with her daughter being born 10 weeks premature reshaped how she looked at abortion and women’s healthcare. Read about that experience here.
Economy
Tanya will champion strengthening the economic well-being of the working class and middle class families of TX-27, including much-needed infrastructure investments from Bastrop to Nueces County.
Democracy
Our country is in a dark and dangerous place right now and Tanya will champion strengthening our democracy.
Rural Healthcare
Our rural communities deserve to have good health care and hospital access, yet Texas leads the nation in rural hospital closures. Tanya will fight to fix this.[2]
