Background

Representative Zawistowski started Resource Books, LLC, a small business, in 1996. Additionally, she has worked as the Assistant Director of the UConn School of Business Center for Real Estate and Econ. Studies and as the Executive Vice President of Northeast Savings, F.A., Hartford. She has served on the East Granby Board of Finance, the East Granby Economic Development Commission, and the East Granby Chamber of Commerce, among other positions.

Representative Zawistowski was first elected to represent the 61st General Assembly District in a special election in 2014. District 61 is made up of Suffield, East Granby, and Windsor. She was re-elected in 2018. She has served on the Appropriations and Transportation committees, and was selected to be Ranking Member of the Planning & Development committee.[1]

We can work toward these goals by:

Reducing the gas and diesel tax

Eliminating the $250 business entity tax, which applies to all businesses whether or not they turn a profit

Eliminating the job-killing unemployment “special assessment” on employers. Businesses are assessed this charge annually to cover the state’s borrowing to cover past unemployment claims

Including “sunset provisions” on all new regulations, allowing for an automatic review at the end of a specified period to see whether the regulation still makes sense

Requiring a super-majority vote in both houses of the General Assembly to pass any new unfunded state mandates. These mandates impose heavy burdens on towns and increase local property taxes[14]
