Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am a lifelong resident of Jefferson City, a long-time local educator, and a former elected member of the Jefferson City Public School Board.
My experience as a school board member made it acutely clear how decisions made at the State Capitol affect our schools, families, businesses, and community, and how, too often, those decisions are made without listening to the people affected. That is why I decided to run for state representative.
As state representative, I will put people first and prioritize policies that help everyday Missourians. I am committed to working for a life Missourians can afford and a future they deserve.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
It's time for the State Legislature to invest in Missouri's future to revive the state’s sluggish economy, which hasn’t grown for 20 years. To attract businesses that offer good jobs, lawmakers must invest in what people and employers depend on - safe roads, strong public schools, accessible and affordable health care and childcare. Missourians are doing their part. They’re working hard, paying taxes, raising families, caring for parents, keeping local businesses alive, and holding their communities together. The problem is that the economy stopped working for the people who make it run. When Missourians can afford to live, work, care for their families, and participate fully in their communities, our economy gets stronger. It's time that our lawmakers put the well-being of the people and our local communities first, rather than serving the interests of political parties and power brokers. I am ready to restore power where it belongs - in the hands of the people of Missouri. I support the right of citizens to propose their own laws through the ballot initiative process without legislative interference. I will work to ensure that passing ballot initiatives isn't made more difficult. I will support creating fair voting districts to make sure everyone’s voice is heard. Democracy works best when leaders respect the people's decisions. It's time for our legislators to tackle affordability issues for Missourians. I have heard from hundreds of Jefferson City residents who are concerned about making ends meet. The cost of groceries, utilities, housing, healthcare and child care continue to rise. I will work to keep Missouri affordable for those who call it home. Part of that strategy is ensuring a fair tax system for all taxpayers, not one that shifts more of the burden onto working people. Fair taxes mean everyone pays their share so the state can then invest in good schools, safe roads, public safety the building blocks that make our communities strong - good schools, safe roads, public safety, and quality health care.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Education, education funding, expanded access to childcare, addressing Missouri's affordability issues, reviving our state's sluggish economy, restoring power to the people, and improving access to affordable healthcare.
