Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
My roots in Western Washington County are deep. I raised my family in Forest Grove, taught in Hillsboro, and go to church in Cornelius. I bring 42 years as a classroom teacher, 16 years as a Metro Councilor, and 11 years as State Representative. I chair the House Transportation Committee and serve on the Joint Ways and Means Subcommittee on Education. I know how to build coalitions across differences, listen to all stakeholders, and translate community needs into lasting policy. My experience gives me a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities in housing, transportation, education, and behavioral health.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Fighting Federal Overreach & Protecting Immigrant Communities: I’ll keep working to hold ICE and law enforcement agents accountable and strengthen civil rights protections. I am a proud advocate for reproductive freedom, immigrant justice, LGBTQ+ equality, gun safety, and voting rights.High-Quality Public Education: Our students and families deserve fully-funded schools. I’ll keep working to modernize the Quality Education Model and fight cuts to programs our communities count on.Safe and Modern Infrastructure: Oregonians deserve a modern and robust transportation system that meets our 21st century needs. I’ll continue working for increased public transit and bike-pedestrian facilities, safety improvements, and road maintenance that saves us from expensive repairs in the long run.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Education, transportation, and land use. As a former teacher of 42 years, education will always be the issue closest to my heart. My classroom experience informs my decisions and keeps me centered on our goal of serving all students. As Chair of the House Transportation Committee, I will continue working for stable funding that keeps everyone safe on our roads and bridges. I also have worked on responsible land use policy for decades. I know we need to protect our world-class farmland and include the agricultural industry in our economic development plans. I’ll keep fighting for good stewardship of our land, water, and energy resources.
