In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a mother and wife, small business owner, and teacher. I have two teenage children - one in college and one in high school. I am the proud founder and owner of popular online resources for families - LouisvilleFamilyFun.net and OldhamFamilyFun.net. I have worked in digital media, marketing and public relations for over 15 years, but careers most true to who I am relate to education.

I currently serve as a high school math teacher and even when I was not full-time in the classroom, I have been helping students in other ways. Most people know that I am very passionate about math education and showcase my joy in teaching math to everyone I meet. I aspire to be a change-maker for education to continuously improve teaching and learning.

In terms of my education, I have a BS in Mathematics from Wake Forest University and a Masters Degree in Public Affairs with a concentration in Policy Analysis from the University of Texas at Dallas. I earned my PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Louisville in 2024.

Finally, I am a breast cancer survivor. While earning my PhD, I overcame this most challenging obstacle. I include this as part of who I am because it was a focal point in my life that changed so much of my perspective and heightened my motivation to use my life to be of service to others.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

We need to address affordability for all families. As a parent and small business owner, I know that costs keep rising and people are feeling more pressure to budget for those costs. Policies need to focus on helping all Kentuckians become financially stable in their daily lives so that they can afford what they need and save for their futures.Education is a vital part of our communities. It is a large employer in my district and a primary reason why people live in my county. Kentuckians want our state legislature to provide ample funds to our schools for student services and increasing teacher salaries, for example. In order to strengthen our public schools and provide students with more opportunities to learn, school districts needs sufficient funds from the state instead of the stagnant or decreasing funds we have seen over recent years. As a breast cancer survivor, I know that my neighbors can be one diagnosis away from something really scary. I want everyone to have access to high-quality healthcare that they can afford. Dealing with medical situations is stressful enough and what people should be able to focus on is their health, not mounting medical bills or the anxiety around whether or not they will be able to get the care they need.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am most passionate about education policy, particularly surrounding teaching and learning mathematics and student access to high-quality teaching and learning.

I also care deeply about people's right to healthcare and protecting their futures by ensuring they can see doctors and specialists and that mounting medical bills do not create a barrier for care.
