In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am Shena Chapman, an Independent candidate for Wisconsin’s 36th Assembly District. I have spent my career serving others as a bank teller, small business owner, paraprofessional, home health caregiver, and self-employed cleaner. As a wife, mother, and longtime resident of the 36th District, I understand the everyday challenges our families, workers, and small businesses face. I am running because I believe people should come before politics. My goal is to listen, work across party lines, and focus on practical solutions that strengthen our communities, protect our water, and improve opportunities for future generations.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

People Before Politics. As an Independent, I am not beholden to a political party. My decisions will be based on what is best for the people of the 36th District, not partisan agendas. I will work with anyone willing to solve problems and put our communities first.Protecting Our Communities. Clean drinking water, strong public schools, and safe communities are essential. I will advocate for addressing PFAS contamination, supporting local schools, and making responsible investments that improve the quality of life for families throughout the district.Practical Leadership and Accountability. I believe government should be transparent, fiscally responsible, and responsive to the people it serves. I will listen to constituents, communicate openly, and work to find common-sense solutions that make Wisconsin stronger for everyone.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about protecting our water, strengthening public education, and supporting policies that help families and small businesses thrive. I believe government should focus on practical, common-sense solutions that improve everyday life. I also value transparency, fiscal responsibility, and working across party lines to solve problems rather than deepen political divisions. My priority is always putting the people of the 36th District first and ensuring their voices are heard in Madison.
