In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Shaun grew up on a farm in a family of modest means. When his parents divorced, his mother, a registered nurse, worked two jobs to support her three children and put them through college.

From his mother, Shaun learned the value of hard work, dedication, and grit. The first in his family to ever attend college, Shaun earned a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Economics from University of Saskatchewan, a law degree from The University of Western Ontario, and finally a Master's in Business Administration with majors in Finance and Accounting from Northwestern University.

He was an oil and gas lawyer for three years, and since then has spent the last 30 years working in investment banking, focusing on energy, primarily oil and gas mergers & acquisitions.

Shaun and his wife have lived in The Woodlands for 20 years, and they have raised four children in their wonderful community. Unfortunately, one of their daughters tragically passed away at the age of 19. Shaun has long been committed to furthering the education of young people in The Woodlands and elsewhere.

Shaun served on the Board of Trustees of The John Cooper School for several years. He also founded an investment club for high school students. For seven years, Shaun taught young Texans the importance of understanding and managing their personal finances, how to live within their financial means, how to make prudent investment decisions, and how to avoid going into debt.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

To improve affordability in the United States, Congress needs to take action. Tariffs are one of the most obvious drivers of inflation, costing the average American family $2,000–$3,000 a year. I believe in getting rid of harmful tariffs, raising the minimum wage, and lowering healthcare costs so working families have a real opportunity to achieve the American Dream.Everyone in this country deserves affordable healthcare. The Affordable Care Act was the most important piece of legislation passed in this century. If we allow Republicans to keep chipping away at the ACA, healthcare will become unaffordable for millions of Americans.

I will do everything I can to expand the ACA and make healthcare as accessible and affordable as possible for families across this country.I will do everything in my power to ensure every young person in the United States has the opportunity to receive an excellent education. Cutting support for research, public health, and universities will have serious consequences if we don’t act soon. A strong nation prioritizes knowledge and builds pathways for people to attend a university or trade school.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I believe our country needs practical, bipartisan immigration reform that builds on the principles of the 1986 Immigration Reform Act signed by President Reagan. That starts with securing our borders and enforcing our immigration laws. Individuals who entered this country illegally and have committed serious crimes should be deported. However, those who have been here a number of years, obeyed the law, and paid taxes should have a clear, earned path to citizenship. We should also modernize the immigration system by increasing the number of immigration judges and investing in technology to make the process more efficient, timely, and effective.
