In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Sean Huffman is a dedicated advocate for the people of Northeast Texas, running to represent House District 1 in the Texas House of Representatives. A resident of Paris Texas, Sean’s campaign is built on the belief that state government should prioritize "people over politics" and deliver common-sense solutions that improve the everyday lives of all Texans.
Sean’s vision for District 1 is rooted in the principles of economic resilience, world-class education, and accessible healthcare. He is committed to moving Texas from the bottom tier of national rankings to a leader in public education by ensuring our local schools are fully funded, public tax dollars stay in public classrooms, and our educators are treated with the professional respect and compensation they deserve.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Transforming Public Education: Investing in the Future of Texas
The quality of our public education system is the single most important factor in the long-term economic and social health of House District 1. Currently, Texas consistently ranks in the bottom 10 states nationally for per-pupil spending. This is not just a statistic; it is a failure of leadership that limits the potential of our children and puts an undue burden on our rural communities. My mission is to move Texas from the bottom 10 to the top 10 in the nation for public education.Restoring Rural Healthcare Access and Hospital Sustainability
In District 1, healthcare access is a matter of survival. Texas leads the nation in rural hospital closures, creating "healthcare deserts" where residents must drive hours for emergency care or routine checkups. This is an unacceptable standard for the greatest state in the nation. I am committed to a "Rural Texas Strong" healthcare strategy that ensures no Texan is penalized for living outside a major metropolitan area.Achieving Meaningful Property Tax Relief and Economic Resilience:
Property taxes in Texas have reached a breaking point, particularly for our farmers, small business owners, and seniors on fixed incomes. While the state has made incremental progress, many of these "cuts" are quickly eaten up by rising appraisals. My goal is to shift the tax burden away from property owners by having the state fulfill its constitutional obligation to fund public education.
