In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Sean Collinson is a mediator, crisis negotiator, businessman, and lifelong problem solver who is running for Lieutenant Governor of California with no party preference. For more than two decades, Sean has built his career helping people navigate difficult conflicts and find practical solutions through communication, negotiation, and common ground.

As a professional mediator and trained hostage negotiator, Sean has spent his career in situations where emotions run high and the stakes are real. His work requires patience, listening, and the ability to bring opposing sides together to reach fair and sensible outcomes. That experience shapes his approach to leadership and public service.

Sean has lived in California for more than forty years and raised his children through the state’s public school system. As a husband, father of three, and self made businessman, he understands the challenges families face with rising costs, affordability, and the need for safe communities and strong educational opportunities for the next generation.

Sean believes California’s greatest strength is its people, but that the state has been held back by political gridlock and leadership that too often prioritizes party interests over practical solutions. Running with no party preference, Sean’s campaign focuses on restoring trust in government by bringing people together, listening to communities, and focusing on issues that affect everyday Californians.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

California is one of the most extraordinary states in the country, built by people who work hard, care about their communities, and believe in opportunity for the next generation. Yet today many Californians feel that something is not working the way it should.

Families are struggling with affordability. The cost of housing, food, healthcare, and everyday necessities continues to rise. Parents worry about the future of education for their children. Communities want safe neighborhoods and a government that actually listens to their concerns.

The challenge facing California is not the people. The challenge is leadership that has become stuck in political gridlock while the real issues affecting everyday families continue to grow.Yet too often, public leadership has been caught in political gridlock while many of the issues affecting everyday Californians continue to grow. Communities want leaders who focus less on division and more on practical solutions.

Sean Collinson is running for Lieutenant Governor with no party preference because he believes leadership should begin with listening. Throughout his career as a professional mediator, Sean has worked with people on all sides. The role of Lieutenant Governor carries important authority that affects the future of our state. As President of the California State Senate, the Lieutenant Governor has the responsibility to cast tie breaking votes when legislation is evenly divided. These decisions require careful judgment and a commitment to fairness and accountability.

The Lieutenant Governor also helps guide the future of higher education by serving on the governing boards of the University of California and the California State University systems. These institutions educate millions of students and play a critical role in preparing California’s workforce and future leaders.

In addition, the office serves on the California State Lands Commission.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Public policies that matter most to me focus on improving the everyday lives of Californians. I believe in policies that strengthen education so every student has the opportunity to succeed, support safe communities where residents and law enforcement work together with trust and respect, and promote affordability so families can live and work in this state with stability. I also believe in responsible stewardship of California’s public lands, natural resources, and infrastructure to ensure long term opportunity and sustainability for future generations. Leadership should focus on practical solutions that serve the people and move California forward.
