In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I’m Scott Hege, a Wasco County Commissioner, engineer, and small business leader running for House District 52. It’s been a real joy for me to be involved in public service and I’m proud of the results we’ve been able to achieve for our local communities in Wasco County. We’ve shown that when the government focuses on practical priorities, we can strengthen our economy, fully fund law enforcement, maintain our roads, and deliver quality services.
I’ve lived in Wasco County since 1991 and previously served as Executive Director of the Port of The Dalles. During my time at the Port and in my 16 years as a County Commissioner, I’ve focused on economic development that creates family-wage jobs and builds a strong tax base so our communities can thrive. Today, in addition to being the Chair of Wasco County, I serve as principal of S3B Group in the construction sector.
My wife Betsy and I have been married for more than 40 years. We enjoy spending time with our children and grandchildren at our home and farm just outside The Dalles. I care deeply about the future of our state, and I’m ready to bring experienced, common-sense leadership to Salem.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Cost of Living:
It's no secret that Oregon families and businesses are feeling squeezed by rising housing costs, energy prices, and everyday expenses. Unfortunately, Salem has contributed to this situation by passing poorly conceived policies that have only made things worse. I believe the state government must focus on practical policies that reduce financial pressure on working families, businesses and seniors. My approach is grounded in fiscal responsibility and expanding economic opportunities for all.Economic Development & Small Business:
Small businesses are the backbone of the Gorge, Mt Hood and East County economy. My background in economic development and construction gives me firsthand insight into what employers need to grow and create jobs. I support a predictable, business-friendly environment that encourages investment and innovation and keeps businesses here in Oregon. I will stand up for our farmers and Ag community and protect them from more bad state policies that make their businesses unprofitable.Education:
Students deserve a strong education system that truly prepares them for college, careers, and success in the real world. I support accountability, local control, and practical pathways, including career and technical education, that help build a capable, job-ready workforce. Parents and teachers must be strong partners in improving student outcomes and preparing the next generation for a successful future.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
After years of planning for retirement, I felt called to step forward because I believe Oregon can do better. Our state is struggling in too many areas, from affordability to education to economic growth, and we need leadership focused on solutions, not politics. I’m running to help restore optimism, strengthen our economy, and ensure our children and grandchildren inherit an Oregon we can all be proud of.
