Regular election
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I’m a lifelong Mainer who grew up on a dairy farm in central Maine and graduated from UMaine Farmington. Since moving to Lewiston in 2017, I’ve served on many committees: Housing, Ad Hoc Shelter, Transit, Complete Streets, Public Art, Loan Qualification, as City Council President, and as the Council representative to the School Committee.
I show up for the people I serve, in every vote, every committee meeting, and any time my constituents need someone to advocate for them. I don’t support or oppose a bill based on which party supports it - I vote based on what my neighbors tell me they need. Every vote I take reflects the conversations I have with the people I serve and the needs and challenges they share with me. That’s what makes a difference for the people of Lewiston.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Affordability and the overall cost of living are what's on a lot of people's minds right now. My priorities are to help lower the cost of living by cutting taxes for low- and middle-income Mainers and by funding efforts to make housing, healthcare and childcare more affordable; and to direct more funding to Lewiston’s public schools and after-school programs to keep our kids safe and supported.
People shouldn’t have to struggle to pay their rent, afford childcare and fill their cupboard or their gas tank. We need representatives who know the value of hard work and how hard it can be to get ahead when times are tough. That’s what makes me want to continue serving Lewiston in the State House.Lewiston has seen some recent upticks in gun violence, especially among youth. I will continue to push for common-sense solutions to reduce violence and keep guns out of the hands of young people.
We also need to support and invest in our youth by providing robust programming and opportunities for all youth as well as targeted intervention and diversion programs for those who are at risk. Our tax system needs to be fairer. The working families and people on fixed incomes who I represent should not have to cover budget gaps by paying more than people making over $1 million a year. This year I helped pass laws to provide more property tax relief for families who need it.
Going forward, I'll push to cut taxes further for people who are middle and lower income. Families also need everyday life to be more affordable, through lower grocery and heating costs, more housing, and good-paying jobs.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Gun safety, tax fairness, funding for schools and youth
What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?
Maine Gun Safety Coalition, Maine Education Association, Maine People's Alliance, Maine AFL-CIO, Maine Service Employees Association - SEIU Local 1989, EqualityMaine, Maine Youth Power, Committee to Protect Health Care, Wabanaki Alliance, Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund, Maine Conservation Voters Action Fund, Senator Peggy Rotundo, Representative Julie McCabe, Representative Mike Lajoie, former Senator Margaret Craven, former Representative Kristen Cloutier
