In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Born in Cleveland and raised in Northeast Ohio, Scott DiMauro spent a career as a high school social studies teacher committed to ensuring his students had the knowledge and skills to be effective citizens in our democracy. A leader in the teaching profession and his local union, Scott served two terms as President of the Ohio Education Association, where he advocated at the state level for great public schools, opportunities for all students to succeed, and a voice for his fellow educators.

From the classroom to Columbus, Scott has seen how policy decisions made by legislators can help or harm local communities. He will be ready on Day 1 to carry the fight for strong communities and a strong Ohio to the Statehouse.

Scott is the proud father of two adult daughters. He and his wife, Lauren, live in Westlake, less than a mile from Bay Middle School in Bay Village, where Lauren has taught for the past 18 years.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

We must fully and fairly fund our public schools and protect and strengthen essential public services. For too long, policymakers in Columbus have starved local communities of the resources they need to keep our streets safe and our neighborhoods livable for residents of all ages. I will fight for the resources necessary to maintain and improve our roads, parks, libraries, schools, senior programs, and public safety services that are so essential here in Cuyahoga County and across Ohio.We need fairness in our tax system. Recent spikes in property values and resulting increases in property taxes have made it difficult for some of our neighbors to stay in their homes. This problem was created by state lawmakers as a result of inadequate state funding for schools and local governments and a systematic shift in the tax load from the wealthy and corporations to residential homeowners. It’s time for the state to provide meaningful tax relief to those who need it while protecting the schools and local services we all depend on.We must ensure freedom for all people to earn a good living, care for their families, and participate fully in our democracy. State government should never stand in the way of freedom for people from all backgrounds to flourish. I will fight to ensure the ideals of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution are reflected in our laws and policies so the American dream is achievable for everyone.
