Quality, Affordable and Accessible: Housing and Responsible Development, Healthcare, Workforce and Education
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Integrity, good morals, confidence to do what's right, and open mind, cultural competence, discernment
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
. The Legislature must represent the people, debate policy, and pass laws that serve at the highest positive impact with the least amount of harm. Practice active listening, critical thinking, sound judgement, from a place of understanding.
What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?
I believe the relationship between the governor and the State Legislature should be grounded in mutual respect, open communication, accountability, and shared commitment to serving Vermonters. Keeping in mind the branches of government have different roles, and we each should honor those responsibilities while working together whenever possible to solve real problems.
That is not to say the governor and legislature need to agree on every issue, but should approach disagreement with transparency, honesty, and a willingness to find understanding. Vermonters are best served when leaders collaborate early, respect the legislative process, include community voices, and remain focused on practical solutions rather than political division.
A healthy relationship includes both partnership and checks and balances. The goal should always be responsible governance that improves people’s lives. Less collision, more collaboration.
Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?
Both. Balance is Key.
