In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Hi, I'm Sarah Slattery! I'd like to be your new Secretary of State!
I believe in Nebraska and in the power of its people!
A little bit about me...
I was born and raised in Cass County, Nebraska. I'm the middle child of three kids born to some incredible parents. I'm also the very proud mother of an incredible sophomore in high school.
I am a professional chef and small business owner for 18 years. In 2008, I opened Slattery Vintage Estates Vineyard and Tasting room in rural Cass County alongside my parents. It has since grown into a full blown agri-tourism destination. Being in a family business isn't always easy, but it is definitely fun! I'm so grateful that I have gotten to spend so much time with my folks over the years.
I love being active in my community through volunteerism. I'm proud to serve on both the Plattsmouth Library Board and Plattsmouth Bridge Commission. I enjoy donating my culinary skills to area nonprofits like the Visiting Nurse Association, March of Dimes, EDGE Nebraska City, and Keep Cass County Beautiful. I'm even a regular blood donor for the American Red Cross!
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
I want to work to bring public trust back to the Secretary of State's office.
From tossing out ballot initiative petition signatures to threatening to release our sensitive voter data to the federal government the public's trust in the Secretary of State's office is at an all-time low.
Following the laws and the will of the people are not optional or up for interpretation. The citizens of Nebraska deserve more respect than they have been given lately.I would like to work toward more business growth in Nebraska.
Small businesses are the backbones of Nebraska's many small communities. Our farmers rely on good international trade relations to sell their crops overseas.
Both are so important in the efforts to keep our incredibly talented, Nebraska grown young people right here at home, instead of settling and raising their families elsewhere.I believe in making voting easier and more accessible for all eligible voters.
One great way to increase voter participation would be to allow for same-day voter registration.
23 states, including our neighbors to the East and West allow for same-day registration, with great results. Now that we have a Voter ID law on the books, offering same-day registration would be easier and more secure than ever before!
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Voting Rights are very important to me. Voting is our number one civic duty, our constitutional right, and a hard fought responsibility.
Every eligible voter can and should vote in every election with well-informed confidence.

But voting can be intimidating or confusing for folks. From ever-changing voting precinct locations to Nebraska's newly instituted Voter ID Law, there are lots of voting information gaps that need attention. One way to increase voter participation would be to allow for same-day voter registration.23 states, including our neighbors to the East and West allow for same-day registration, with great results.
