In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

"Leave a Place Better than you Found it" & "Take Care of each other"

These are the mottos of my family that guide me.

Development vs environment? I believe in responsible development that ensures the health and economic well-being of Alaskans, our families and friends, as well as the water, air, fish, plants, berries and moose we rely on to feed our families and live the sweet Alaska life. Developing a diverse range of energy projects, small - medium and large, will lift Alaskans back up, out of the poverty levels we're seeing now.

I am running because I believe in Alaska, I believe in the constitution, and I believe in government of, by and for the People.

I'm ready to defend our communities' access to the things that bring a sense of stability and well-being to daily life: food, healthcare, fair energy prices, and a quality education for our children. These are bare minimum standards that we should be meeting for the people of Alaska.

I know that Alaskans are the hardiest, most inventive and freedom loving people you will find anywhere.

58 years in Alaska has given me a truly unique perspective. I've hunted, packed moose and caribou, fished, dip-netted, and harvested Alaska's bounty my entire life. I have worked since I was 14, graduated Su-Valley in 1983 and received my Associates Degree at University of Alaska - Fairbanks. An amazing career in Aviation Business Management provided in depth experience in managing people, budgets and in crisis management.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

My husband and I built our own off-grid house. Solar provides the lion's share of our power needs except for a few months in the winter. Using energy storage and solar has reduced our fuel bill well over half. Alaska is missing the boat by not utilizing all power resources available to us.

Develop small to mega sized resource and energy projects that are both environmentally and financially sound: for the benefit of the Alaskan people, with a vision towards balance and consideration of future generations.

Streamline State Energy organizations - quality, ethics and expertise over politics.

Enhance the reliability and efficiency of the power transmission system in the Railbelt region using mid-length storage and upgrading the linesEthics in Government:End Corruption.

Equal justice for all: rich, poor, well connected, elected official, or not.

Protect the PFD with a constitutional ammendment and ensure a fair share for Alaskans into the future.

Unlimited anonymous money in elections is not a winner for the people. Remove the ability of special interests and corporations to hammer us with ads and lies. Hawaii did it, so can we.

Ensure that we take Conflicts of Interest seriously, so that Legislators with direct financial ties recuse from voting (especially on mega-projects that have long-term financial impacts on Alaska and all residents).

All Alaskans' private information is private. Period.EDUCATION - Fully Fund for Quality

It is the responsibility of the State to ensure a well educated citizenry and we are failing.

Inflation proof & fully fund our schools.

Our kids are our future and our school districts are running deficits and unable to plan ahead.

Education is one of the primary responsibilities of a State. I support funding school maintenance.

Bring back sports & music.

Let's fix this now and stop the out-migration due to the sub-par opportunities for our kids.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Ethics, Energy, Education, the PFD and a balanced budget.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Jay Hammond is my hero. He respected the people, the land, was kind and had great vision for the State of Alaska.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Ethics, Honesty and understanding that they are a public servant, working for the citizens of the Nation, State and locality, not themselves.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Alaska and always remember that state funds are to be used responsibly and conservatively on behalf of the citizens.

What legacy would you like to leave?

To be recognized as part of the team that put Alaska on the path to fiscal recovery and for Alaska to be ranked as #1 for Education in the USA.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

7 year old, standing on a chair, dishwasher at Sheep Creek Lodge. Grandma and Grandpa were managing, mom was prep cook, sister was waitress! Family, fun and fishing!

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

My husband's sense of humor. Seriously though, I was a single mom for about 11 years, and it was really hard to make it financially.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

Cooperation for the purpose of best serving the people of Alaska.

What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

•

Out migration of young Alaskans due to a lack of opportunities.

•

Rising cost of living.

•

Small to medium energy projects don’t get funded because all the money is endlessly spent on big zombie/ego projects that don't pencil out financially.

•

Big land, water and resource grabs by private equity, big tech and trawlers.

•

What will happen to Alaska’s future if we do not fully, constitutionally protect the permanent fund from depletion by the legislature.

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

Necessary, and desirable.

What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?

AFL-CIO, Paul Roderick (Owner, Talkeetna Air Taxi), Ruth Woods.

What was the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember?

Vietnam war on Television.
