In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Hello, my fellow Oklahomans! My name is Ryan Gardner, and like you, I am frustrated by the state of the world.
My brother Cameron passed away in a car accident soon after he'd turned sixteen. I was nine at the time of his passing. If you've ever faced great loss, you know how difficult it is to comprehend.
It wasn't until my senior year at Carl Albert High School that I began to come to terms with his passing. From Cameron's sudden death, I came to the conclusion that all life is precious. The time we share with those we love is precious. Few things matter more in life than our connections to the people we care about.
Yet this understanding clashes with how our society functions. We are often forced into situations we would rather avoid, making choices shaped by forces beyond our control.
It is frustrating to recognize that our government is not designed to take care of us. We struggle daily to make ends meet while trying to balance the needs of ourselves, our families, and others that we care about.
I'm running for Oklahoma House District 95 because I believe we need to make a real change. A change in how representation works. A change in how legislation is written. Change by the means of tearing down a broken foundation as well as the structure built upon it.
We deserve better representatives and I hope to earn your trust so that I may be that representative.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
The foundation of all governance is ensuring that its people can survive with dignity.
Survival mandates:
•
Housing
•
Food & Water
•
Healthcare
•
Safety
•
Utilities: (Heating, Cooling, Clean Water, Electricity, Internet)
If government fails to provide this foundation to all its people, then all priorities intended to provide comfort or joy are meaningless.Once survival is assured, the next goal is to provide comfort.
Comfort means:
•
Having Savings
•
Free Education
•
Reliable Infrastructure
•
Protections from Scams, Grifters, or Unfair Business Practices
Comfort is the state of having one's basic needs met consistently, allowing individuals to focus on higher aspirations without the constant stress of uncertainty. The ultimate goal of governance should be to create the conditions where its people can find joy.
Joy means:
•
Free Access to ones Time
•
Pursual of Passions, Hobbies, and Growth
•
Strong Community Connections and Social Bonds
•
The Mental and Emotional space to find Enlightenment
Governments may not be able to directly provide joy, but it can create the conditions to allow for its pursuit.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I would say all areas of public policy I am passionate about. Everyday people are affected by everything that their government passes or refuses to consider. Any policy that could improve the lives of average peoples is important to me. I say this understanding that this answer may be unsatisfactory to those wanting specificity. However, I ask you to understand that my priorities are your priorities. To say that I have any preference for any particular avenue of policy would be disingenuous. Any policy that makes your life easier or makes you more comfortable I likely support.
