Ryan Clancy was born in Glendale, Wisconsin. Clancy graduated from Nicolet High School in 1995. He earned a B.A. in English from Beloit College in 2000 and an M.A. in negotiation, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding from California State University, Dominguez Hills, in 2011. His professional experience includes working as a teacher for Milwaukee Public Schools, as a counselor and counselor trainer at Legacy International, and as a business owner of Trounce Records.[1][2][3][4]
Clancy volunteered as a legal observer and team leader for the American Civil Liberties Union, for Mass Care/Sheltering, and for the American Red Cross. He also served in the United States Peace Corps. He joined the Democratic Socialists of America, Citizen Action, and was a delegate for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.[1][2][3]

Ryan has a bachelor's degree in English and secondary education from Beloit College, and a master's degree in negotiation, conflict resolution and peacebuilding from California State University, Dominguez Hills, with coursework on the ground in Israel and Palestine. A lifelong activist, Clancy’s advocacy has taken him to the Philippines, where he served as a Peace Corps volunteer, to Indonesia, where he trained to do unarmed protective accompaniment for human rights volunteers, and to Iraq, where he worked with students and protested the occupation in 2003. Closer to home, he worked in Virginia with youth from areas of conflict around the world, protested at Standing Rock, and has been arrested or risked arrest protesting for immigrant rights in Milwaukee and Racine. A frequent volunteer with disaster relief organizations, Ryan has deployed to do disaster relief work in areas of natural disasters across the country and to apartment fires, floods and warming rooms in Milwaukee County. He also regularly volunteers as a legal observer with the Milwaukee Turners.
Ryan taught for Milwaukee Public Schools for years, first as a substitute teacher, where he became familiar with schools and families across the city, and then in a project-based MPS school, and has continued to advocate for public schools, students and families.

Fighting to codify and expand the "Right to Counsel", which I passed this year, to ensure that every Milwaukee County resident is provided a lawyer when experiencing an eviction or foreclosure
Working to keep rent and mortgages low, and encouraging cooperative ownership
Transforming the prison industrial complex
Reducing contact with and overfunding of law enforcement
Shifting the focus of the jail, House of Corrections and Vel Phillips Juvenile Justice Center to focus on reentry rather than confinement and punishment
Providing no- and low-cost communications between families and their incarcerated loved ones to maintain contacts with their communities
Restoring programming options within our institutions such as the Work Farm, which provide meaningful work and career skills
