In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am a proud mother of five, wife, and grandmother of 12 who has dedicated my life to service, leadership, education, and community empowerment. I earned an associate’s degree in chemical dependency/drug and alcohol counseling, a bachelor’s degree in management, a master’s degree in public administration, and a doctorate in management with a specialization in organizational leadership. My professional and community work has always centered on creating opportunities, uplifting underserved communities, and advocating for equity, education, economic mobility, and public health.
I previously served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Harrison School District Two Board of Education and currently serve in the Colorado State Legislature on the Health and Human Services and Business and Labor Committees. I also serve as Vice Chair of the Black Democratic Legislative Caucus of Colorado, Colorado State Director for Women in Government, Western Region Coordinator for the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women, Western Region Director for the National Conference of State Legislators Women’s Network, and a 2026 National Conference of State Legislatures Opioid Policy Fellow.
Outside of public office, I am an entrepreneur and community leader. I own Your Favorite Fashionista, a clothing boutique located in the heart of House District 17, and founded Be You LLC, a youth leadership academy focused on empowering the next generation of leaders.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
For the past eight years, I have had the honor of serving my community both on the Harrison School District Two Board of Education and in the Colorado State Legislature, where I have consistently fought for policies that center people over politics and communities over corporate interests. My leadership has always been grounded in equity, justice, and the belief that every person, regardless of race, income, zip code, age, gender, or background, deserves access to opportunity, dignity, and a government that truly works for them. Voters should know that I am not new to this work. I have spent years advocating for students, working families, seniors, small businesses, educators, and historically underserved communities. My campaign is deeply rooted in the belief that government should prioritize people over profits and communities over corporate greed. Too many Coloradans are struggling to afford housing, healthcare, childcare, groceries, transportation, and retirement while large corporations continue to accumulate wealth and political influence. I believe we must build an economy that works for working families, not just the wealthy and well-connected. That means investing boldly in public education, affordable housing, healthcare access, union jobs, small businesses, clean energy, workforce development, and community-based solutions that help people thrive rather than simply survive.I am running for reelection because I believe Colorado can become a national leader in equity, economic justice, education, healthcare, labor rights, and community-centered policy. But achieving that vision requires leaders who are willing to confront systemic inequities, challenge harmful policies, and make bold investments in people instead of protecting the status quo. My campaign is centered on building a future where every child has access to a high-quality public education, every worker earns a living wage, every senior can age with dignity, every family has access to affordable healthcare and housing, and every community feels safe, valued, and represented.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am deeply passionate about advancing policies that improve healthcare access, strengthen public education, expand affordable housing, and create workforce development opportunities for all Coloradans. I believe healthcare is a human right, and I support policies that expand affordable healthcare access, improve maternal and mental health outcomes, lower prescription drug costs, and ensure underserved communities receive equitable and culturally competent care. I support strengthening labor unions, collective bargaining rights, apprenticeship programs, workforce training opportunities, and investments that create good-paying jobs while supporting small businesses and local economies.
