In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
My name is Rachel Keys and I am running to represent Michigan's 108th district. I think that by choosing leaders that consider winning the same thing as serving, we have lost the type of representation that used to stand up for We, the People. I think the very notion of service requires sacrifice and loss. I know that as a Veteran, as Indigenous, as a Christian, and as a parent. I know how to serve, and I will serve You, the People.
Professionally, I hold bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration (minor in Marketing) and Cannabis Business (minor in Biology) from Lake Superior State University, as well as associates degrees in Business and Native American Studies from Bay Mills Community College, providing me with a unique combination of skills in building and maintaining economic opportunities and administrative needs specific to our district. Prior to my work with the Point Iroquois Lighthouse and Museums, I worked as an anti-ship cruise missile defense weapons specialists for the Department of Defense waterfront battle contracts. My position as a combat systems operational trainer stemmed from my training in the United States Navy. Through my 6 years of enlisted service I was certified in advanced RADAR theory and operational maintenance for weapons control RADARS and in missile handling and launcher operation and maintenance.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Rural healthcare needs are not being met for veterans, mothers, the elderly, and children in the UP. We must make affordable and accessible healthcare a priority!I was raised in the Assemblies of God church. I am a born again believer and I believe that my service to the church can best be spent in spreading the message of love for ALL of Gods children. All of Gods children. As a veteran, I know that service requires sacrifice and not just posturing and “winning”. War is not a political game to veterans the way it is to politicians.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Rural healthcare access and affordability.
Teacher and Prison union support.
Environmental conservation and hunters rights.
