Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Phillip Fleming is a New York State Certified Peer Specialist (provisional) and a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate with more than 17 years of experience in peer support and grassroots advocacy. He is dedicated to promoting peer support values and principles and to empowering peers to lead self‑directed lives.

Fleming is employed by the Geneva (NY) City School District as a 1:1 Special Education Teacher Aide. He holds a Teaching Assistant certification from the New York State Education Department. He actively volunteers at Fountain House, the New York Association of Black Psychologists, the Association of Black Psychologists, and the Ontario County Democratic Committee, and is an ordained minister with Universal Life Church Ministries and holds an honorary Doctor of Divinity. His education includes studies at Berea (KY) College, Columbus State (OH) Community College, The Ohio State University, PESI, Inc., and the Harlem Family Institute. He is a candidate in the Bachelor of Science Pathway to Teaching program at Roberts Wesleyan University (Geneva Cohort), where he will pursue dual certification in Adolescent Social Studies and Special Education.

Fleming is running for office because he believes in the power of unity, hard work, fresh ideas, and more widespread community engagement. Together, we can create safer neighborhoods by severely limiting ICE activity in our region, strengthening our public schools with adequate mental health professional staff, teachers, and administrators that genuinely care for our students, a stronger local economy, more behavioral health supports in our communities, adequate and accessible public transportation options, and a brighter future for every family and every individual in Assembly District 131.Rural counties matter! The Finger Lakes Region deserves an assembly person who will ACTUALLY represent them and NOT be tied down by special interest groups. Say NO to Seneca Meadows Landfill! Say YES to clean water, clean air, and clean energy!I will fight FOR you and WITH you, both in Albany and in our communities! Presence matters! Adequate representation matters!
