In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I was born in Peoria, Illinois, and grew up on a farm, the second of seven children. I owned a small business at the age of 19. We moved to Colorado in 1971. We adopted our son in 1972. We were seriously disappointed in the quality of education in our son's school. My husband ran for the school board, and that prompted me to run for the State Legislature. I flipped a Democrat seat winning by 86 votes. I ran for Congress, and was also a Lt. Governor candidate. I have been involved in politics at the helm of several nonprofit organizations including Citizens for Excellence in Education and Citizens for Responsible Government. My husband and I have been married for 58 years and have one son and two grandchildren.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Families in Colorado are facing difficulties with the cost of living in our beautiful state. Housing affordability and high property taxes are problems to tackle. High property taxes cause rents to go up so high that families, singles and newlyweds can't afford housing. The Democrats have passed regulations that stifle businesses and jobs. Government needs to get out of the way in most circumstances.Everyone should be safe in their neighborhoods and communities. We want strong laws and politicians who support law enforcement. I support legal immigration. The Democrats have allowed rights and monies to be allotted to illegal immigrants that has put a strain on Colorado's finances. Sanctuary cities protect illegals who would otherwise be arrested and put in jail. ICE and local law enforcement should work together to ensure the safety of Colorado citizens. The Democrats are working to change the culture of Colorado. They have voted against laws to ban boys from girl's sports, locker rooms and bathrooms. A judge has just put transgender surgeries back into Colorado law. The majority of Coloradans abhor human trafficking. I support choice in education so families can determine which form of schooling they want for each child - public, private, or homeschooling. Literacy should be taught, not indoctrination. The Democrats want to take guns away from law-abiding citizens by chipping away at the Second Amendment. Colorado is not California or an East or West Coast state. Every human being has the right to be born.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about every policy that affects the family - so that covers every policy! Living affordability, taxes, citizen's safety, education, jobs, inflation, protecting Colorado water rights, gun rights, illegal immigration, strong border, human rights, clean air, has production, etc. I will endeavor to learn about all the issues that I will vote on in order to be a voice for the family. I will not be looking around to 'find' bills to carry because there are far too many bills being introduced. I will vote to limit the intrusion of government into the lives of my constituency. Not everyone can vote for me, but I will be voting for everyone in Colorado.
