Pamelya Herndon graduated from Roy Miller High School. Herndon earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Howard University in 1975 and a J.D. from the University of Texas in 1978. Herndon's career experience includes working as the president and CEO of KWH Law Center for Social Justice and Change, the CEO of the Women's Center of Social Justice and Change, and the executive director of the Southwest Women's Law Center. She has served as the first vice president of the NAACP Albuquerque Branch.[2][3]

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Pamelya Herndon serves as the State Representative for House District 28. She holds law licenses in both New Mexico and Colorado and is also licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Texas. Early in her career, Pamelya worked as an Estate Tax Attorney for the Internal Revenue Service. Later, she became a Senior Trial Attorney in the IRS Office of District Counsel, where she represented the agency in proceedings before the United States Tax Court and the Bankruptcy Court.
Pamelya has served as Assistant Attorney General for New Mexico; General Counsel for the Regulation and Licensing Department, and as a Deputy Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico General Services Department. She later moved to nonprofit work supporting women and children, and now serves as President/CEO of the KWH Law Center, a nonprofit law center focused on providing access to justice for low-income individuals.
Pamelya was appointed to fill the position as state representative in House District 28 on June 22, 2021 when her predecessor Melanie Stansbury left to fill a vacant position in Congress. Pamelya subsequently ran for and won the position as state representative for House District 28 in 2022 and in 2024. Pamelya has received numerous awards since being elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives including being recognized as the Freshman Legislator of the Year.

I am fighting for quality, affordable healthcare for everyone, including protecting women’s access to reproductive healthcare; programs that support families and individuals experiencing dementia or memory loss; and proving access to mental health and behavioral health treatment.I am fighting to ensure that every person who wants housing has access to quality, affordable housing.I fight for policies that support the safe storage of firearms and protect children from gun violence.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Healthcare, Career Technical Educational Programs, Internships and Apprenticeship Programs; sustainable infrastructure programs that protect water resources and the environment, and affordable housing.
