Campaign website

Parrott’s campaign website stated the following:

To Restore Freedom

Neil believes in election integrity. To maintain our freedoms, elections must be fair and transparent where only legal living voters can vote, and that they vote only once.

Neil believes in the 1st Amendment right to free speech. “Facebook jail” and banning people from Twitter just because of their political beliefs are not acceptable. These social-media monopolies should fall under the control of the FEC to enforce freedom on these platforms.

Neil believes in our Second Amendment Right to bear arms and to protect our family and our property. The first freedom is the right to life or the right to be born. Neil is pro-life and will work to protect unborn children.

Neil believes in medical freedom. There should not be a covid passport that treats a group of people as second-class citizens because they did not get the COVID shot. In addition, people should not be fired from their jobs simply because they would rather not get the COVID shot.

To Keep More of Your Money in Your Pocket

Neil will fight inflation. Did you know that your $50 dinner now costs $3 more than last year? If you didn’t get a 6% pay raise last year, you took a pay cut because the cost to buy goods has increased by over 6% due to inflation. Neil will work to lower inflation by reducing borrowing and spending less.

Neil will work to lower your electricity bill and natural gas or propane costs. He will work to restore our energy independence by allowing the US to harvest our own natural resources and allowing us to use the most cost-effective energy.

Neil will work to LOWER YOUR TAXES. The government is too big and is taking too much of our money. Neil believes you know how best to spend your money, and he will work to let you keep more of your own money.

For Pro-Parent Policies

The culture war should not be waged through our children in the public classrooms in our nation.

Philosophies like the Critical Race Theory (CRT) have no place in our schools. CRT is institutional racism. We should work on unifying our country instead. Neil agrees with Martin Luther King, Jr. when he stated that, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Isn’t that what we should be teaching our children?

Parents need to be able to see the curriculum and be able to communicate freely with the Board of Education without threats from the government.

Biological boys should not be allowed to compete with biological girls in sports. Boys should not be able to steal girls’ scholarships for college athletics.

Parents need to be in control of their children’s education. Neil supports vouchers for parents so that they can choose to pick the best education for their children, whether that is public, charter, private or home schooling. It is not fair that many children are trapped in failing schools, when for less money spent per child, they could be given a much better education.

When students are handed laptops and tablets, controls should be placed on the devices so that they do not have unfettered access to pornography, weapons building, and other harmful websites.

For Safer Communities

Neil supports our Police and will work to give police the tools they need to successfully protect our communities.

Neil supports our right to own firearms. He understands that when help is needed in seconds, the police are often minutes away. Families need to be able to protect themselves, and Neil supports their ability to do so.

Neil supports protecting our borders.

Fentanyl is killing Americans every day. It does not come from US sources, but instead, comes across our southern border and from China. We need to plug the holes and work to slow down the import of this dangerous and deadly drug.

A very porous, open southern border allows human trafficking to occur without much resistance. We need to protect young people and work to enforce our immigration laws by having a secure border.

Illegal alien gang-related activity is increasing and is hurting our communities. Securing our border is a good start to reducing this problem.

Terrorists are also able to use our non-secure southern border to easily enter our country. Allowing dangerous criminals easy entrance endangers all of us and must be stopped.

To Make America Strong

Neil will work to fully fund the military and help increase our respect worldwide. Ronald Reagan said that we will have “Peace through strength.” After the embarrassing retreat from Afghanistan, the US is perceived as weak, which makes friendly nations like Taiwan, Ukraine, and Poland more vulnerable.

The United States loses billions of dollars each year due to unfair trade deals that punish America and reward countries like China. Balance needs to be restored by renegotiating our trade deals so that we aren’t taken advantage of and so that we don’t fund the militaries of nations that are opposed to us.

Neil believes that we need to bring manufacturing back to our area. The cleanest manufacturing in the world occurs in the US, and yet we continue to impose more environmental restrictions that send our manufacturing jobs to places like China which produces the highest amounts of pollution. These laws are not helping the environment, but instead, are transferring our wealth and jobs to other countries.

Cyber-terrorism is crippling our businesses and stealing billions of our dollars. In Congress, I will work to bring the full force of the US Military and intelligence community to stop cyber-terrorism attacks and to prevent blackmail payments going to terrorists.

To Improve Transportation

In District 6, North/South roads need to be widened to be able to create safer roadways and better opportunities for high-paying jobs. This includes widening US 219 in Maryland and Pennsylvania, widening I-81 in Washington County, and widening I-270 in Frederick and Montgomery Counties.

The I-70 Phase 4 project in Frederick that would serve traffic going to and from the west needs to be built. This last phase would eliminate the significant delay that motorists experience on westbound I-70 every afternoon going west through Frederick .

Supply chain solutions are needed to get goods out of the ports and to people. The US needs to remove barriers to allow all truckers to be able to move goods from our ports.

Private solutions like Uber, Lyft, Bird, and Lime should be utilized more so that we spend less tax money paying for underutilized public transportation options.[7]

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Neil Parrott is a father, husband, coach, small business owner, and is currently serving his third term as a State Delegate in Maryland’s General Assembly.

Before starting his own business and entering public service, Neil worked as a traffic engineer for the Maryland State Highway Administration in Frederick County as well as the Deputy Director of Engineering for the City of Frederick.

Whether it’s organizing swim meets, solving difficult engineering problems, or working to serve people in the Maryland General Assembly, Neil will apply the same level of dedication and commitment when he’s elected to represent MD6 in Washington DC.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Neil Parrott will work for you on DAY ONE and has a track record of results to prove it. He has a long history working for the people to stand up for common-sense policies that the majority of people support. As just a few examples, in 2002, worked with Pastor Luke J. Robinson, to keep the 10 Commandments Monument in the Bentz Street Graveyard and Memorial Grounds. In 2009, he and his wife, April, started the Hagerstown Tea Party working for balanced budgets and more freedom where they organized several bus trips to DC to work for medical freedom. In 2011, he started MDPetitions.com where he worked with citizens across the state to bring three critical issues to the ballot, the first successful statewide referendum efforts in over 20 yeAs a result of Delegate Parrott’s work to change the gerrymandered congressional maps, District 6 in Maryland is a toss-up district. Delegate Parrott is now working to beat Democrat David Trone in order to bring real representation to Northern Montgomery County and Western Maryland instead of having an inside the DC beltway insider, who doesn’t live in the district and who votes with President Biden and Nancy Pelosi 100% of the time. District r6 deserves better, and Neil Parrott will for you in DC.1.

Neil will fight inflation. Did you know that your $50 dinner now costs $4 more than last year? If you didn’t get a 8% pay raise last year, you took a pay cut because the cost to buy goods has increased by over 8% due to inflation. Neil will work to LOWER YOUR TAXES. The government is too big and is taking too much of our money. Neil believes you know how best to spend your money, and he will work to let you keep more of you

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Neil will work to Restore and maintain our freedom. Neil believes in the 1st Amendment right to free speech including on social media. Neil is pro-life and will work to protect unborn children. Neil believes and will work for our medical freedom. He also supports our economic freedom needs to be restored by lowering taxes and reducing inflation. These freedoms rely on a fair election system Neil supports laws that will strengthen election integrity.

Neil will work for safer communities. Neil supports our Police and will work to give police the tools they need to successfully protect our communities. Neil supports protecting our borders so that we can reduce the flow of illegal drugs, human trafficking, and illegal gang activity.

Neil will work to make America Strong. Neil will work to fully fund the military and help increase our respect worldwide. What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

I am so thankful for my parents who worked to give my siblings and me great experiences growing up. The first historical event that I remember was the swearing in of Jimmy Carter as President in 1976 when I was 6 years old. Thankfully, we also attended the inauguration for Ronald Reagan four years later.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Summer lifeguard at Arden Beaches in Crownsville, MD. I lifeguarded all that summer, but all of the lifeguards were eliminated the next year and "swim at your own risk" signs were posted as a result of tort liability. This change to remove liability actually made it less safe for patrons to swim. This change helped spark an early interest in changing government to work for common-sense laws that would actually help people.

—Neil Parrott's campaign website (2022)[9]

Neil Parrott did not complete [the profile publisher]'s 2020 Candidate Connection survey.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Three of my top priorities will be lowering taxes/fiscal responsibility, reducing government intrusion, and promoting religious freedom.

I believe that we must lower taxes in Maryland to make Maryland affordable to live, work, and retire in. By lowering taxes, families and businesses will be able to thrive. I plan to work hard toward fiscal responsibility by cutting spending, and not raising taxes.

Government overregulation and overreach is prominent in Maryland. Thankfully, the Hogan administration has worked diligently to reduce the impact of over-regulation by streamlining bureaucratic processes. Even so, the legislature must do more to reduce over-regulation in an effort to help Maryland be, “Open for Business.”

I am working to maintain religious freedoms, by supporting legislation that expands and protects religious freedoms to all Marylanders.[11][7]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

One area of public policy that I care about is keeping Maryland fiscally responsible because Maryland needs to stop borrowing and spending so much money. According to the Maryland Debt Clock, each Maryland citizen currently owes $9,083. Maryland cannot sustain this much debt and needs to cut back on spending and stop borrowing. If Maryland foregoes all new debt for 7-8 years, only then would we be able to pay the minimum payments from our property taxes. If we don’t limit our borrowing and spending, we will be forced to raise property taxes to pay our debt. Another issue I care about is that I believe all life is sacred and needs to be protected from beginning to end. As a result, I fight against euthanasia and for babies that are still in the womb. The life of a human being is valuable. Lives need to be protected whether it is in the womb or at the end of life. For several years, I have introduced and/or co-sponsored the Pain-Capable Child Unborn Protection Act that would eliminate late-term abortions in Maryland. In addition, one of my top priorities has been to work to stop euthanasia laws from passing in Maryland. Allowing euthanasia not only would destroy life, but could easily be used to manipulate older people to forfeit their lives for purely, monetary reasons.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[7]

[the profile publisher] also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Neil Parrott answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

One person I admire politically is Ronald Reagan. He was both a strong fiscal and social conservative. He was an excellent communicator who instilled hope in America and worked with both parties to help make positive changes.[7]

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else that best describes your political philosophy?

I think Newt Gingrich’s Contract with America, and Ralph Reed’s Contract with the American Family were revolutionary policy statements that had a huge impact in 1994 by helping the Republicans gain a majority in Congress. Newt Gingrich’s book outlined several key policy changes that would promote fiscal responsibility, and social conservatism. Ralph Reed’s book outlines several policy initiatives that promote social conservatism and family values, such as, controlling the proliferation of pornography, and promoting Pro-Life legislation. I agree with most of the policy statements in both documents.[7]

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honesty[7]

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at that time?

One of the first historical events that I remember was my attendance at Jimmy Carter’s inauguration in January 1977, when I was 6 years old.[7]

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Mowing lawns, raking leaves, and snow shoveling during different seasons as needed.[7]

If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the legislature, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?

I am currently serving as Assistant Minority Whip.[7]
