In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I'm a lifelong progressive activist & scholar, running to give us a real choice. Sen. Hesselbein hasn't faced a primary challenge since 2012, & she is part of the party's corporate establishment. She had no opponent for the general election until now. We deserve a choice!
All of us deserve more freedom in our lives, not be controlled by the whims of our bosses, healthcare CEOs, supremacists of all kinds, & governing leaders who don’t represent us in any way.
Sen. Hesselbein takes corporate PAC money & she favors their interests by supporting subsidies to for-profit insurance companies & corporate hospitals, supporting data centers, & favoring private schools over publish ones.
We need real universal healthcare, childcare, edu & a focus on equity for ALL of us, including Wisconsinites marginalized by class, race, gender, immigration status, religion, & more.
We deserve a state senator who represents ALL of us, & who fights for us, not the rich. We can do better! We deserve a choice!
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Good healthcare is a human right. We need Medicare for all at the federal level. Until then, we need a public option through BadgerCare that offers better care at a lower price compared to for-profit insurance.Money corrupts politics. My opponent takes money from corporate PACs & the rich. My campaign is limiting individual donations to $200 max for the whole campaign. We need public funding & bans on corporate spending in politics. We need to make big corporations & the rich pay their fair share. My opponent doesn't see a need, but she uses the lack of funds as an excuse not to support the programs to produce the basic levels of wellbeing that all of us deserve.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I'm passionate about policies focused on care, wellbeing, equity, worker power, & democracy.
Healthcare, childcare, minimum wage, affordable housing, affordable food, rest & recreation, & more.
Fully legalized labor unions & active state support for unionization.
Vigorous action to undo systemic inequity by race, class, gender, religion, immigration status,& more.
Reproductive freedom, gender-affirming care, fully legal marijuana, & fully legal sex work.
Freedom to protest human rights violations that shock the conscience, at home & abroad.
Public safety from investing in our communities to improve wellbeing, abolishing & prosecuting ICE, & making armed police a last resort, not a first resort.
What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?
I will have no endorsements because progressive leaders & groups are afraid of retribution by Sen. Hesselbein & the state party if they do. She is likely to win, she'll likely be Senate Majority Leader, & progressives will need to ask her for help. They fear she will punish them & the causes we care about. Progressive leaders & groups are supporting me in less public ways.
