In their own words
Regular election
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I have lived and worked in northern Maine for more than 40 years, and also been fortunate enough to work overseas and in Washington, DC area as a federal law enforcement officer. My experiences working as a CBP officer taught me to listen, keep an open mind and gather facts in order to make determinations. Assisting the public and my colleagues is always my priority. We need to work together to create our best possible lives in Maine. When we treat each other with respect, we can find solutions. Respect means we allow for differences amongst ourselves, without forcing our beliefs on another. As a CBP officer, I took an oath to the Constitution, not to a party or a person. I value learning, and as a State Representative I will strive to hear all perspectives in order to understand. I will fight for a future that includes liberty and justice for all.
My work history includes waitressing, day care provider, retail sales, direct care staff for adults with developmental disabilities and children with autism, real estate broker, property manager and CBP officer. Past coordinator of many school, church and work events including a very special treehouse project and multiple blood, clothing, food and toy drives.
I am not married and have three amazing adult children.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Tax reform can ease the inequity of current tax law, which too many low and middle income Mainers have to bear. A more equitable tax solution needs to be developed, it is not sustainable to have teachers and firefighters paying a 22%-28% rate with few allowable deductions. I support tax credits and expansion of child care resources for working families.I will work for expansion and support of rural health care facilities including telehealth for mental health services. Support more home care options to help seniors and veterans stay in their homes.Economic stability comes through expansion of manufacturing opportunities, creating more good paying local jobs.
I will work to strengthen support for alternatives to lower heating and energy costs for local businesses and families.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about investing in our schools so that manufacturers will be attracted to this area for their expansions. A vibrant, healthy, school system that values and respects each child's individual needs will attract diverse companies who want their employees to thrive and feel welcomed in the Katahdin region, because a happy workforce means profitablity and further expansion.
