In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I've been a public servant for almost a decade and am currently the Mayor of Windsor Heights. I'm a Public Defender for the State of Iowa who has always wanted to help those who weren't feeling heard or who couldn't advocate for themselves. That's how I got into politics in the first place.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

As a Public Defender I'm dedicated to criminal justice reform in this state. We need to fix our archaic drug laws that lead to racial inequality in the justice system and develop a path to the legalization of marijuana. We need to once again make public education a priority in this state. Public school teachers should make a competitive wage that is more than just getting by or above the poverty line. We need to start talking about how we're going to sundown this disastrous ESA program. We need to clean up the water in this State. Republicans have had a decade to address the disaster that is our water quality and now we're facing some hard truths: our cancer rates our rising, our lakes are never safe to swim in and our nitrate removal facilities are running overtime. It's time to get serious about cleaning up our water through regulation and punishing polluters.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Criminal justice, public education, labor, reproductive healthcare, conservation, natural resources, elder rights.

What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?

Iowa State Education Association, AFSCME, Iowa AFLCIO, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Iowa, Sierra Club of Iowa, Next Century Forum, Iowa Unity Coalition, Interfaith Alliance of Iowa.
