In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Michael (Mike) Sheperek, is a Coloradan. Raised in the small mining town of Rico on Colorado’s West Slope, Mike moved to Boulder and graduated from CU with degrees in Biology and Electrical Engineering. He built a successful career as an expert in memory storage systems, earning over 40 U.S. patents in data storage and algorithmic development. Mike was a lead IP (intellectual property) developer for several prominent technology companies. A dedicated family man, an avid pilot (commercially rated), musician, hiker, biker, cook, and mechanic — and is even considering building his own experimental airplane. As a longtime resident of Boulder and now Larimer counties, Mike wants to bring back affordability, sustainable tax policy and preserve the liberties that are being eroded by today’s one-party rule. This happens with cogent policies, properly debated issues and balance in the Colorado State Legislature.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
1)
Restoring Affordability — Fighting skyrocketing property taxes and insurance costs that are driving families out of Colorado. When taxes and insurance outpace people’s incomes, especially the vulnerable and senior citizens, serious legislative malpractice has occurred.2)
Protecting Citizens Rights
a.
Children and Parental Rights — Strongly support the Protect Kids Colorado citizen lead ballot initiatives. Sad that this is even in question.
b.
Defending the Bill of Rights — The 1st, 2nd and 4th amendments have been attacked and eroded. These are non-negotiable rights that can NOT be stripped away. Using the metaphor “death by a thousand cuts”, we have seen the legislators slowly suffocate the Bill of Rights, not acceptable and must be corrected.3)
Responsible Environmental and Energy Policy — Promoting reliable, abundant energy through nuclear, hydroelectric, and smart solar while avoiding unrealistic mandates (greenhouse gas bans). Fix the “Power off when the wind blows” electrical transmission problem that is unacceptable in modern society. We all know the expression “The current cure is worse than the disease” and this classically describes where we are in Colorado.
