In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I have been happily married to Shannon Greer for 56 years, and together we have raised five children and now enjoy the company of our thirteen grandchildren. Our family is the bedrock of my life, providing both joy and a deep sense of responsibility.
As a proud resident of Del Norte County for the past six years, I have developed a strong connection to this community. My professional background as a special education teacher has enriched my understanding of the unique challenges and needs in education, a field I am deeply passionate about.
A pivotal moment in my career was during the California Paradise fires, where as president I helped lead the Paradise Unified School District Board by getting students back in school and planning for the future rebuilding. This experience, during the tumultuous Camp Fire period, honed my crisis management skills and underscored the importance of resilience and community solidarity in the face of adversity.
My life's journey, marked by family dedication, community involvement, and a commitment to education and public service, shapes my approach to leadership. It's a journey that reinforces the values of empathy, responsibility, family, and the importance of serving others.
My journey into politics is driven by a desire to bring back common sense to California's governance. I am committed to addressing the challenges of AFFORDABILITY, ACCOUNTABILITY, and ACHIEVEABILITY to make California a place to live, not leave.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
AFFORDABILITY: Californians pay some of the highest taxes, energy, insurance, housing, health care, and business regulation costs in the nation. The current sate legislative leaders have passed laws and regulations that have increased our prices with bad management, and special interest funding. At the same time continuing to fund programs and policies that have been proven failures and expensive. We need to reduce the cost of energy which will automatically reduce the cost of a families living expenses. We need to become self-sufficient in our energy sector. We can reduce our taxes by eliminating regulatory non-elected bodies that raise taxes on goods and services to pay their overinflated administrative costs.ACCOUNTABILITY: The incumbent legislators continue to hand out money with no procedures in place to audit results or mismanagement, as seen by the fraud and high cost of their programs. Our legislatures have instituted new laws to ensure that cost overruns and mismanagement of programs is hidden by non-disclosure agreements with their contractors and special interest corporations and non-profit organizations. They continue to kill bills that would require accountability. Our incumbent members refuse to let the tax payer know where they are spending our money. We need transparency that current law makers refuse to adhere to. I will be loud and consistent about holding government responsible for their deceit with our money.ACHIEVEABILITY: The California Dream has become a nightmare because of the legislators destruction of education. We need to find ways to achieve that dream that is not dependent on government handouts and stupid laws that lead to a downward spiral of self achievement and success. We do that by helping students to follow their ideas to fruition. God has given us the ability to think, expand our knowledge, develop solutions to life's problems. We need to let people develop ideas into products, products into businesses that support our lifestyles without the government controlling our every movement. Our education system is failing our students because of laws passed by legislators who want power not the success of our students.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
School's are falling apart, classroom behaviors are escalating, parent revolts because of being disenfranchised of their parental rights, districts in financial trouble because of excessive spending, academic scores stagnate, and boys taking over girls sports. Education needs to change, with my experiences as a special education teacher, school board member and a union leader I know what needs to be done.
Streamlining business regulations and tax structure will be an essential part of my campaign.
Common sense agricultural, forestry, wildfire protection, and conservation policies that benefit the public and not special interest groups and non-profit corporations that line the pockets of legislatures campaign funds.
