In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
My wife Leisa and I have lived on the west side of Salt Lake County for 48 years. We have seven children and eighteen grandchildren. We owned three successful businesses; all located in West Valley City. Michael and Leisa are in their tenth-year volunteering on the West Valley City Westfest Committee, and Michael is in his fifth year as a volunteer providing citizen oversite of the West Valley City Police Department (PSRB).
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
The rights and needs of our citizens are being stripped away, and I will work to keep and restore Dignity, Equality, Respect and Compassion for all.Wages have not kept up with inflation for decades. I will work for at least a $20 per hour minimum wage and have it indexed to increase each year based on the inflation rate.Restoring and saving the Great Salt Lake is critical to the health and welfare of all Utah citizens. If we do nothing, the Wasatch Front could well be uninhabitable. I will propose and support legislation that will actually put more water into the lake. I will not support any legislation that will go into the pockets of legislators who own large parcels of land, who sell real estate, are developers or contractors. No money to special interests or political donors. All tax payer money must be used for what it is intended for.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Affordable Healthcare and Healthcare premiums. Childcare that is affordable and easy to access for everyone. Fair wages and benefits for all of our hard working families in Utah. A clean healthy environment. Fully funded public schools with our children having access to free breakfast and lunch programs. Public safety with fully funded police and fire departments. Preserve our vote by mail process which has been so successful in Utah. Eliminating state income tax and Social Security income and eliminating all sales tax on groceries.
