In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Michael Bowles is a commonsense Conservative running for Alaska House District 25. Integrity, honesty, and accountability are Michael’s core values and needed more than ever in Juneau.
Michael will work hard with a conservative approach to ensure fiscal responsibility in government while advocating for lower taxes and supporting industry growth and natural resource development throughout the State.
Michael met his wife, Amanda, a lifelong Alaskan, while stationed at Fort Richardson. During his second combat tour to Iraq, Michael was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious duty in a combat zone. After leaving the Army in 2013, Michael started his second career with the State of Alaska. Michael served Alaska as a state OSHA Industrial Hygienist, as the Investigator for the Board of Pharmacy, and as the Executive Administrator of the Board of Pharmacy. Michael is currently serving the Mat-Su Borough as District 1 Assemblyman.
Between working for state OSHA and coming to the Board of Pharmacy, Michael decided to complete his Master’s degree. Michael and Amanda built and started the food truck, Happy Bison Barbeque, which was seen all around the Valley. This allowed Michael the freedom to focus on his graduate degree classes.
While the District 1 representative on the Mat-Su Borough Assembly, Michael advocates strongly for personal liberty, property rights, fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, and small government. His current term ends November 2026.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Conservative Approach to Government. This means ensuring fiscal responsibility rather than new taxes and debt, as well as ensuring integrity, ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability.
Pro Life. Our Alaskan Constitution is dedicated to the principle that all persons have a natural right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We must fight to protect the right to life for all Alaskans from conception until natural death because without life, there is no liberty, and without liberty, there is no pursuit of happiness.Natural Resource Development and Economic Growth. The State of Alaska is open for business, and I will be in support of natural resource development across the State. I will support industry growth and robust infrastructure by guiding the growth of a healthy economy through private investors, not more government. A healthy economy, not taxes, builds strong infrastructure.
Agriculture and Food Security. I believe that supporting Alaskan Grown and local farmers is vital to Alaskan’s food security, health, and local economy.Term Limits. Studies from conservative groups, such as the Heritage Foundation, suggest that states with legislative term limits consistently achieve better scores for overall fiscal health and budget control. Limiting terms also stops elected officials from making a lifelong career out of holding public office. This ensures lawmakers focus on passing effective policy rather than constantly campaigning for re-election.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Ensuring access to good healthcare for all Alaskans and that our veterans are taken care off.
