Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Melissa is dedicated to putting the people of the 167th District first as their State Representative focused on solutions. Melissa's priorities include supporting economic growth, community safety, and education. She plans to achieve this by supporting small businesses and workforce development, advocating for pro-growth tax reform, supporting crime victims and first responders, and expanding school choice while ensuring financial responsibility. She will work to collaborate with her colleagues to get things done for the people of her District.

Melissa grew up in Maine within a family of small business owners who built businesses from the ground up. She saw what it took to start and develop a business and, in turn, is dedicated to supporting small businesses, which are the vital carriers of the economy in Chester County.

She earned a Bachelor of Science while working in Boston, Massachusetts, at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Proceeding to work for architectural firms as a designer, owner's representative, and architectural representative in her chosen field of corporate design.

As a community outreach partner, Melissa collaborates with diverse individuals, from those involved in equine therapy to those pursuing vocational education. Melissa is the Chair of the Historic Architectural Review Board (HARB) and Liaison to – Planning and Zoning in Charlestown Township. Pennsylvania Farm Bureau member.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

PEOPLE FIRST- The voice of the People should become the actions of those elected. Many of our citizens have continued to struggle for years now, with the high cost of living. The State Representative is elected to understand and facilitate for current and long-term needs of communities. Prioritizing and protecting the citizens.Pro Business. Tax Reform- needs acceleration. The businesses that create our economy, the jobs, must have the ability to be competitive. We are in need of increasing the skilled workforce, this knowledge planning needs to align directly across the workforce gap, into our industry and businesses.Education - Students and Parents First, results for tax dollars spent and school choice. Expand and improve the educational options in technical fields.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Fiscal Policy - Federal and State funded programs must be implemented responsibly, with committed follow through to the intended results.

Education - Students first. Tax dollars should directly correlate to student outcomes. Vocational and community education needs to be affordable. Strengthen access and increase the education to immediate industry and job needs, while planning for the new and emerging markets within our businesses.

Energy & Environment - Pennsylvania is an energy producer, our resources should benefit Pennsylvania residents First. Using our natural resources, industry and knowledge we create clean and safe energy.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Moral and Ethical Leadership. Those that value people and resources, leaders that are committed to being better together.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

Resourceful, Determined.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Core responsibilities for this office include learning and understanding what comprises the communities. How to support the success and remove any barriers.

What legacy would you like to leave?

That my service as State Representative would result in better communities for the people.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

This is not the first event, but it was the most exciting. February 22, 1980, underdog U.S. Hockey Team at XIII Olympics, Lake Placid NY. USA - defeated the Soviet, four-time gold medal winning team 4-3!!!

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

Yes, collaboration is best.

The government should operate with financial transparency, as it is the people the government serves. Our government was created with intentional accountability to the People.

Education because of the way it affects our children/youth, agriculture, and energy.

People I meet that possess much gratitude in their life, and respect for others, kindness - their character inspires me.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

Thomas Sowell has many good books; I have several he has written. Also, Man of The House, memoirs of Speaker Tio O'Neill with William Novak, a good book to read.

Determined and Resourceful

To serve, in the capacity of their office, the people that have elected them.
