In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Matthew Levine. I was born and raised in New Hampshire and fell in love with Missouri after moving here over three years ago. I have a wife, two dogs and two cats and I love baseball, soccer and a good movie. I am very family oriented and all I have ever wanted to do was help people. I have a background in teaching, including teaching special needs children, and I now work for the Department of Homeland Security, where I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic. I am looking to run for Missouri Congressional District 6 to help lead Missouri into a better and brighter future.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

The education system is in ruins in this country. Especially for special needs children. Teachers need to be paid more, children need more individualized care. It is not one size fits all and every child matters. We need to take care of our children and their education. Our children need to have access to a free or reduced breakfast and lunch that is also healthier and more nutritious. This will increase their learning capabilities.Healthcare is a huge problem in this country. With the government cutting funding for Medicare and Medicaid, the abomination that is women's Healthcare and reproductive care and the Healthcare offered to our veterans, we need change. With a new bill that is getting passed by the House of Representatives, there will be 13 million Medicaid patients that will be cut off their insurance, with 1.4 million coming from Missouri. The economy is not where it needs to be for this country to thrive. With the tarrifs, the stock market has crashed. With the new bill being passed, it will add four trillion dollars of deficit. I want to help increase jobs to put more revenue into our country and employ our citizens.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am personally passionate about the crime and policing that is going on in our country. I am deeply saddened by all of the January 6th pardons that occurred by our president. There is no place in our country for any person or group to physically assault any law enforcement officer. I am also incredibly angry that we are not doing anything in regards to gun reform so we can protect our kids and allow them to go to school to learn safely and not have to worry if they will make it home.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

The Constitution of the United States of America.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Our elected official needs to work for the people. They must make the time to be available and listen to the concerns of all their constituents. We are elected to represent the voice of the people.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I am an incredible listener and have empathy for all people I interact with. This would make me a successful officeholder because I would be able to better represent my constituents by placing myself in their shoes and being able to understand their concerns better.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

The core responsibilities of someone that is elected is to represent the voice of their constituents. They are elected by the people to follow through on providing a better and brighter future for all.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

The first historical event that happened in my lifetime that I remember is September 11th. I was 12 years old, sitting in my middle school English class when we got the announcement the first tower was hit. We went into lock down, every teacher brought in a television and we all watched the news. It was a scary moment because we were in New Hampshire which is not far from New York, or Washington D.C.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

I have always wanted to be Superman because I have always wanted to help people and make a difference in the world.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?

It is not a necessity in my opinion.

Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?

Yes I do believe that, but they should be allowed to run again for up a total of 12 years. After a certain point, it seems that they are no longer working for the people. Rather for their own personal interests.

What are your thoughts on term limits?

I do believe there should be term limits. Not like the president, but also not for 30 plus years either.

Is there a particular representative, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?

I would want to model myself after Abraham Lincoln, with a mixture of JFK, and Hakeem Jefferies.

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

Yes I do believe compromise is necessary to build a better country.

What are your views on financial transparency and government accountability?

If you have absolutely nothing to hide, then there shouldn't be any issues being transparent with your financials.

Campaign websiteLevine's campaign website stated the following:Fair and Nondiscriminatory Education: I truly believe that education in the United States must be improved to support greater economic mobility. I support scaling up effective tutoring models through national service programs, fellowships, volunteers, and high-quality virtual tutoring. I also advocate for free breakfast and lunch for all students regardless of income to assure that every student grows with a healthy lifestyle. Getting a healthy balance of nutritious foods helps the growing body and young minds so they can get the most out of their education. I also believe in ensuring opportunities to combine college preparatory academics with technical training and workplace experience to prepare students for the jobs of the future. About 1 in 3 undergrads receive Pell Grants which includes 10,235 Missourians. Pell Grants help make college more affordable to those less fortunate. These investments in the future generations will help grow the economy and our middle class by allowing them to gain a higher education and prepare for the workforce. Republican's cuts to education would jeopardize the futures of students who use Pell Grants to help afford their education.Quality and Accessible Healthcare for ALL: I plan to fight for the right of all Americans to have the best possible healthcare. I aim to strengthen the insurance marketplace, expand financial assistance, and address affordability issues. My plans include considering state-level innovation, tax credits, and ensuring pre-existing condition protections. One in five Missourians rely on Medicaid, however, Congress is pushing for cuts that would gut rural care and offer tax breaks to the wealthy. Hospitals are closing all across the state, and in some parts of our 6th district, families are driving anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour just to find a hospital bed. We need to strengthen Medicaid and not cut it. We need to invest in rural healthcare so families can grow and age along with the communities they love. Healthcare access should not depend on their zip code. Women deserve the right to choose what happens to their own body. That is just plain and simple. Politicians should not be the ones to decide how a woman lives. It is truly absurd that the will of the people is being ignored, and the politicians in both Missouri and Washington D.C. should just let the people decide for themselves.Agriculture and Rural Communities: Missouri farmers pride themselves on feeding the world. However, too many of them are being squeezed by Congress and the inflation they are causing. It is getting harder and harder for our farmers to break even with the trade policies flipping back and forth and America's export programs stalling. It is more difficult to run these businesses in the modern age without the proper access of broadband internet. I believe in free and smart trading, not just bailouts. We need policies that put small and family-run farms first, and with the right support, rural America can once again thrive!A More Prosperous Economy: The goal is to bring us back from the damage that this administration has caused the lower and working class. We need to put the money in the pockets of our lower and working class citizens, bring down inflation, and allow for those to put the money back into the economy (bubble up). I propose an economic plan that stops billionaire tax breaks and promotes fair and equitable taxes for all Americans regardless of household income. We all need to pay our fair share. I aim to avoid raising taxes for the less fortunate and instead focus on helping middle-class Americans, who make up a majority of the population, to stimulate economic growth. My goal is to invest in small businesses by creating good-paying jobs, attract sustainable industries, and invest in the future of our Missourians and all other Americans which would help us grow our economy and our middle class. I will fight for a fair living wage increase. I will fight for earned paid sick leave.Veterans and Military Families: My commitment to America's servicemembers and veterans is equal to the full measure of devotion that they have committed to the United States of America. I believe in a 21st-century Department of Veterans Affairs to deliver world-class care to all veterans and their families. I will continue to work to make certain that coordination between the VA and the Department of Defense creates a smooth transition from active duty to civilian life in order to ensure a modernized and efficient delivery of health care and pension benefits. I will work to strengthen our economy and communities by empowering veterans and connecting their unique skill sets with jobs of the future. I will continue to stand with the military families who serve alongside their loved ones in uniform by supporting military spouses and children as they pursue education, careers, and financial opportunities. Our nation must always celebrate the sacrifice our veterans have made on our behalf by providing them with the very best quality of life when they return home.Basic Human and Constitutional Rights: Pride is more than a celebration. It is a tribute to courage, resilience, and the unwavering strength of millions of LGBTQ+ Americans who have fought—and continue to fight—for the simple right to live openly, honestly, and without fear. As a candidate for Missouri's 6th Congressional District, the LGBTQ+ community and Pride Month are not just political talking points to me. For me, this runs much deeper. I was raised in a family that believed every human being deserves love, dignity, and respect. We never truly know what battles someone is facing behind closed doors. We don't know the pain they carry, the discrimination they endure, or the fear they live with simply for being who they are. When I made the decision to run for Congress, I knew that the LGBTQ+ community deserved someone in their corner—someone who would stand beside them every step of the way. I have friends across this country who once feared leaving their homes because of who they were. I have family members who were afraid to come out because they felt isolated, scared, and alone. I have witnessed the emotional toll that hatred, prejudice, and exclusion can have on people I love. That is why my support for the LGBTQ+ community is not performative. It is personal. Pride runs deep in my veins because it represents the people I care about, the families I cherish, and the fundamental belief that every American deserves to be treated equally under the law and with dignity in their daily lives. I honor those who came before us—the activists, advocates, and everyday people whose courage helped pave the way for future generations. I honor those who are still struggling to find acceptance. And I honor those who continue to stand tall in the face of adversity. I dedicate this congressional campaign to them and to the incredible strength they have carried through some of the most difficult moments imaginable. To every member of the LGBTQ+ community: I see you. I stand with you. I love you. And I will never stop fighting for your rights, your freedom, your dignity, and your humanity.Second Amendment Rights: I support and will defend the people's right to the Second Amendment. However, in most recent years, firearms are currently the leading cause of death in children in the United States. This is no longer just about politics, or sending out prayers to the families of the deceased. This is about making a change and protecting our loved ones. There are simple ways that we can protect our Second Amendment rights, as well as having public safety. Background checks to make sure certain individuals cannot carry because they lost those rights by violating the laws. We should be encouraging safe storage of our weapons. Responsible gun ownership is a simple request, and common sense reforms will help keep everyone safe.Immigration and Customs Enforcement And Equal Rights Issues: I do not believe that ICE should be allowed to run rampant without being held accountable. These masked men & women are under the impression that they have absolute immunity (mostly because our VP has said so). We need to hold each and every one of them accountable for their reckless behavior. My goal is to get them to have their badges in sight, and have judicial warrants to enter homes not just any piece of paper just like all other law enforcement officers. No one is above the law.Citizens Rights to Due Process: I'm running for Congress because I believe due process is not a privilege—it's a promise. In every corner of our justice system, I've seen how easily that promise can be strained or overlooked, especially for those without power or a voice. My fight is about restoring that balance—ensuring that every person is treated fairly, heard fully, and judged impartially under the law. Protecting due process means protecting the foundation of our democracy, and I'm committed to defending it with clarity, courage, and unwavering respect for the rights of every individual.— Matthew Levine's campaign website (July 20, 2026)Note: This text is quoted verbatim from the original source.
