In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am State Representative Marla Smith, a proud Democrat, lifelong resident of Pagedale, and the current Representative for Missouri House District 74.

I was born and raised in North St. Louis County, graduated from Normandy High School, and have lived in this community for over 50 years. Before serving in the Missouri House, I served my community as a Pagedale Alderperson and worked for more than 26 years as a Senior Court Clerk for the 21st Judicial Circuit of St. Louis County.

I am a mother, grandmother, public servant, and community advocate. My life and my work have always been rooted in service, fairness, and standing up for working families, seniors, children, and the people too often left out of the conversation.

I am running for re-election because House District 74 deserves a representative who knows this community, listens to the people, and fights to bring resources, respect, and real results back home. My goal is simple: to keep Moving 74 Forward with fully funded public schools, affordable healthcare, safer communities, workers' rights, and respect for Missouri voters as a whole.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Strengthening Public Education & Opportunity so every child has access to a quality education, regardless of where they live. This simply means fully funding public schools. If Amendment 5 passes it could cut $5,104.471 of the district total budget within the Normandy Schools Collaborative. (Source MO Budget Project Dist. Analysis.)Expanding Access to Affordable Healthcare. Work to ensure individuals, families, seniors, and children have access to affordable, quality healthcare services. I am proud to have been on the Board of Alderman when Affinia healthcare came to my neighborhood/district.

Building Safer Communities. I support public safety initiatives that reduce crime, strengthen neighborhoods, and improve community well-being. I have also taken groups of constituents to Police Simulator classes to increase their knowledge of scenarios of real-life situations officers face on a daily basics.Protecting Workers' Rights. I am an advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, collective bargaining rights, and policies that support working families in Missouri. Lastly, respecting Missouri Voters. I Uphold the integrity of Missouri's democratic process and respect the decisions made by voters at the ballot box.
